We give a simple proof of Bourgain's disc algebra version of Grothendieck's theorem, i.e. that every operator on the disc algebra with values in L 1 or L 2 is 2-absolutely summing and hence extends to an operator defined on the whole of C. This implies Bourgain's result that L 1 /H 1 is of cotype 2. We also prove more generally that L r /H r is of cotype 2 for 0 < r < 1.

We consider Schödinger operators on the half-line, both discrete and continuous, and show that the absence of bound states implies the absence of embedded singular spectrum. More precisely, in the discrete case we prove that if ∆+V has no spectrum outside of the interval [−2, 2], then it has purely absolutely continuous spectrum. In the continuum case we show that if both −∆+V and −∆−V have no ...

We prove new criteria of stability of the absolutely continuous spectrum of one-dimensional Schrödinger operators under slowly decaying perturbations. As applications, we show that the absolutely continuous spectrum of the free and periodic Schrödinger operators is preserved under perturbations by all potentials V (x) satisfying...

An operator T : E → X between a Banach lattice E and a Banach space X is called b-weakly compact if T (B) is relatively weakly compact for each b-bounded set B in E. We characterize b-weakly compact operators among o-weakly compact operators. We show summing operators are b-weakly compact and discuss relation between Dunford–Pettis and b-weakly compact operators. We give necessary conditions fo...

The absolutely continuous spectrum of an ergodic family of onedimensional Schrödinger operators is completely determined by the Lyapunov exponent as shown by Ishii, Kotani and Pastur. Moreover, the part of the theory developed by Kotani gives powerful tools for proving the absence of absolutely continuous spectrum, the presence of absolutely continuous spectrum, and even the presence of purely ...

and some self-adjoint boundary condition at the origin. We assume that U is some bounded function for which HU has absolutely continuous spectrum. The presence of the absolutely continuous spectrum has direct consequences for the physical properties of the quantum particle described by the operator HU (see, e.g. [23, 2]). If we perturb this operator by some decaying potential V (x), the Weyl cr...

‎In this paper‎, ‎first we develop the duality concept for $g$-Bessel sequences‎ ‎and Bessel fusion sequences in Hilbert spaces‎. ‎We obtain some results about dual‎, ‎pseudo-dual ‎and approximate dual of frames and fusion frames‎. ‎We also expand every $g$-Bessel ‎sequence to a frame by summing some elements‎. ‎We define the restricted isometry property for ‎$g$-frames and generalize some resu...

Let X, Y and Z be Banach spaces, and let ∏ p(Y, Z) (1 ≤ p < ∞) denote the space of p-summing operators from Y to Z. We show that, if X is a £∞-space, then a bounded linear operator T : X⊗̂ǫY −→ Z is 1-summing if and only if a naturally associated operator T : X −→ ∏ 1(Y, Z) is 1-summing. This result need not be true if X is not a £∞-space. For p > 1, several examples are given with X = C[0, 1] t...

The discrepancy method is widely used to find lower bounds for communication complexity of XOR games. It is well known that these bounds can be far from optimal. In this context Disjointness is usually mentioned as a case where the method fails to give good bounds, because the increment of the value of the game is linear (rather than exponential) in the number of communicated bits. We show in t...
