In this paper I identify new goods in U.S. imports data at the product levels of 7-digit TSUSA or 10-digit HS codes. I show that consistent with product cycles, the North’s new goods exports relative to old goods exports grow faster than the South’s, and then the South catches up with the North. The catch-up takes 13 ~ 18 years and happens in the 1990s, an age of globalization and outsourcing. ...
This paper extends theories of public goods to interactive communication systems. Two key public communication goods are identified. Connectivity provides point-to-point communication, and communality links members through commonly held information, such as that often found in databases. These extensions are important, we argue, because communication public goods operate differently from tradit...
The fast emergence of Internet as a media to distribute digital information goods created many new opportunities for the packaging and pricing of these goods. The pricing of information goods introduces a challenge since the cost structure of information goods differs from that of conventional physical goods in that they can be costly to introduce but are relatively cheap to reproduce. The bund...
This paper sets up a model to account for differences in total factor productivity due to differences in enforcement of contracts. Vertical specialization generates the need for intra-period credit, because final goods producers cannot pay their intermediate goods suppliers before they produce their final good. The paper shows that if there are enforcement problems, the capital distribution is ...

Splenic adherent cells are required for generation of both primary and, at limiting antigen dose, secondary allogeneic responses of cytolytic T lymphocytes to intact stimulator cells. Secondary responses to purified allogeneic plasma membranes or purified H-2Kk antigens in liposomes are also dependent upon splenic adherent cells. Generation of these responses requires the presence of an Ia-posi...
Increased adhesive forces between sickle erythrocytes and endothelial cells (EC) have been hypothesized to play a role in the initiation of vasoocclusion in sickle cell anemia. Erythrocyte/human umbilical vein EC interactions were studied under controlled flow conditions for normal (AA), homozygous sickle cell (SS), sickle cell trait (AS), mechanically injured normal, and "high-reticulocyte con...
