Bovine dopamine beta-monooxygenase was purified from each of 18 individual adrenal glands by the method we have developed for the rapid purification of the enzyme from a single adrenal gland. Differential peptide mapping of the 18 enzyme preparations following fluorescence labeling of their cysteine residues revealed the presence of a novel variant with Phe as residue 208 in 14 adrenal glands; ...

Malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumors (MPNSTs) have rarely been reported to occur in the adrenal gland and all of the reported cases were associated with neurofibromatosis, pheochromocytoma or ganglioneuroma. We present here a case of MPNST in the bilateral adrenal glands without any history of neurofibromatosis or combined tumor. Histologic examination showed the tumor cells had a spindle t...

By means of direct arterial perfusion of the adrenal glands of the hypophysectomized dog, it has been shown that synthetic lysine, arginine and acetyl arginine vasopressins stimulate the adrenal cortex directly to secrete hydrocortisone. Pressor activity and cortisol-stimulating activity were demonstrated to be independent of each other. Similar polypeptides, such as oxytocin, insulin, glucagon...

Primary adrenal insufficiency is caused by loss of function of the adrenal gland itself, for example due to autoimmune-mediated destruction of adrenocortical tissue or surgical removal of the adrenal glands or due to inborn disruption of adrenal cortisol production in congenital adrenal hyperplasia. Secondary adrenal insufficiency is caused if the regulation of adrenal cortisol production by th...

The liver enzyme lipoprotein lipase (LPL) facilitates the release of cholesterol from lipoproteins and plays a key role in the synthesis of steroid hormones in the adrenal glands. For the current study, 6 male and 6 female clinically healthy New Zealand White rabbits, aged 3.5 months were used. Enzyme histochemical reaction (per Gomori) was performed on fresh cryostat sections, and through the ...

The adrenal glands from 15 guinea pigs aged 90 days were used in the study. Paraffin slices were stained with Mayer haematoxylin and eosin with Masson method and silvered. The histochemical reactions were carried out for catecholamines and the biochemical determinations of catecholamines. Ultrastructural observations were also performed. In the adrenal medulla of sexually mature guinea pigs num...

The most frequent sites of distant metastasis of colorectal cancer (CRC) are primarily liver and lung, followed by brain and bone metastases. Infrequently, metastases are found in the adrenal glands. They usually have a metachronous and homolateral character. We present a case of contralateral synchronic adrenal metastasis of CRC and its surgical resolution.

Myelolipomas are rare, benign nonfunctioning tumors, most commonly found in the adrenal glands. At least 43 cases of extra adrenal myelolipomas have been reported, with at least 50% of these reported cases occurring in the presacral region. Herein we report a case of presacral myelolipoma managed laparoscopically.

Hydatid cysts may be found in almost any part of the body, but most often they are found in the liver and lungs. Other organs that are occasionally affected include the brain, muscle, kidney, heart, pancreas, and adrenal and thyroid glands. We report a case of hydatid cyst of the adrenal gland.
