Because we found apoprotein contamination of some high-grade commercial albumins, we studied this effect on formation of lipoprotein-like particles during lipolysis of human very low density lipoprotein (VLDL) in vitro. After a 1-hr incubation with purified bovine milk lipoprotein lipase, over 98% VLDL triglyceride was hydrolyzed in the presence of either albumin B (apoprotein-rich) or albumin ...

Human serum albumin binds ligands such as fatty acids and metals in circulation. Oxidative stress can modify albumin and affect ligand binding. This study examines the role of oxidative stress and fatty acids in modulating cobalt binding to albumin in patients with fatty liver. Elevated levels of malondialdehyde and protein carbonyls, indicative of oxidative stress were evident in serum of pati...

The primary constituent of urinary protein in diabetic nephropathy is albumin. Consequently, quantification of urinary albumin excretion is central to any description of diabetic renal disease. Albumin excretion can be determined from timed urine collections, and 24hour, overnight, or even shorter collection periods are used. Measurement of the urinary albumin-to-creatinine ratio in untimed uri...

Introduction: Community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) is a common type of respiratory tract infections with high morbidity and mortality. Prognostic role CRP/Albumin ratio in CAP patients still unknown. The aim this study was to investigate the CRP/albumin predicting 30-day mortality ICU requirement hospitalized CAP.
Material Method: included CAP.Clinical records plain radiographic images were...

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES Although albumin excretion rates have been related to cardiovascular morbidity and mortality in both diabetic and nondiabetic adults, little is known about the relation between albuminuria and either cardiovascular risk factors or the insulin resistance syndrome in adolescents. A normal range for albumin excretion in adolescents was established, correlations between al...

Some suggest that measurements of plasma fructosamine concentration should be corrected for the plasma protein (or albumin) concentration because the extent of glycation per volume depends on both protein and glucose concentrations. Several reports, however, demonstrate a poor correlation between plasma fructosamine and albumin concentrations in diabetic patients. In vitro kinetic and in vivo s...

Albumins are the most well-known globular proteins, and the most typical representatives are the serum albumins. However, less attention was paid to the albumin family, except for the human and bovine serum albumin. To characterize the features of albumin family, we have mined all the putative albumin proteins from the available genome sequences. The results showed that albumin is widely distri...

Fatty acids immobilized on agarose have been employed in the isolation and study of serum albumin by affinity chromatography. Various oleyland palmityl-aminoalkylamino-agarose preparations bound about 10 mg of albumin per ml of agarose; other proteins were retained in smaller amounts and with lesser affinity. Fatty acid-agarose columns which had been exposed to human serum and then washed yield...

Background: Due to multiple roles of albumin in the body, injection of its medicinal product as one of the therapeutic or management strategies under conditions such as severe bleeding, burns, liver failure, and neonatal hemolytic diseases is on the physicians' agenda. Considering that albumin is the most abundant plasma protein, designing an appropriate method to purify it is highly important....

SUMMARY Accelerated albumin catabolism without a compensatory increase in anabolism leading to decreased serum albumin concentration in tumor-bearing animals was observed. Supplemental high-protein feedings augmented albumin synthesis, which resulted in a return of serum albumin to normal levels in tumor-bearing rats. Adrenalectomy abolished tumor-induced accelerated albumin catabolism.
