This collection highlights the diverse and complicated ways that violence becomes axiomatic, namely through political rhetoric, epistemological impositions, colonial legacies. Considering how axiomatic emerges from events of rupture as well slow-moving structural inequalities, authors interrogate both novelty mundane quality current moment. Approaching expands conceptual lexicon for discussing ...
Axiomatic Theories and Improving the Relevance of Information Systems Research This paper examines fact that a significant number empirical information systems (IS) studies engage in confirmative testing self-evident axiomatic theories without yielding highly relevant knowledge for IS community. The authors conduct both horizontal analysis 72 representative an in-depth vertical 3 well-known (i....
David Hilbert is considered the champion of formalism and the mathematician who turned the axiomatic method into what we know nowadays. Hilbert compares in 19001 the axiomatic method with the genetic one, and he argues that only the former is capable of giving a true foundation to mathematics. In this paper I will analyze the key concept of the axiomatic method, namely that of axiom. To underst...
As explained in the lecture "Introduction", topological notions of connectedness and of the boundary of a subset are important for image analysis. The widely used concept of m, nadjacencies defines these notions not satisfactorily: different adjacencies for the foreground and background are only applicable for binary images. A subset has two boundaries: the inner and the outer ones. They do not...
An axiomatic system contains a set of primitives and axioms. The primitives are Adaptation to the current course is in the margins. object names, but the objects they name are left undefined. This is why the primitives are also called undefined terms. The axioms are sentences that make assertions about the primitives. Such assertions are not provided with any justification, they are neither tru...
We apply three axioms adapted from decision theory to refinements of the Nash equilibria of games with perfect recall that select connected closed subsets called solutions. Undominated Strategies : No player uses a weakly dominated strategy in an equilibrium in a solution. Backward Induction: Each solution contains a quasi-perfect equilibrium and thus a sequential equilibrium in strategies that...
This paper gives a generalisation of a version of order sorted logic and an abstract axiomatic setting for the treatment of substitution. The two ideas are shown to be related, an equational speciication of term declaration logic being a presentation of a nitary generalised compositum. The axiomatic approach to substitution is compared with some others.
