By means of electron holography, the electric potential distributions around a cold-type FEG-emitter (field emission gun emitter) are visualized with a change in the applied voltages. In a biased FEG-emitter, the experimental method for obtaining an unperturbed reference wave is applied in order to carry out quantitative electron holographic analyses. Further, through comparing the experimental...

In this paper, experiences of the last 20 years with PERALS-technique are described. PERALS stands for photo electron-rejecting alpha liquid scintillation. This scintillation technique was developed by Jack McDowell in 1970s and is a powerful analyses many natural nuclides also beta nuclide 90Sr. The principle based on selective extraction radionuclide from water phase means complexing or ion p...

Exposure to radioactive elements or having them through drinking water causes many biological risks. Therefore, it is important to investigate the drinking water especially in regions where people depend on well water for drinking. Concentrations of some radionuclides in some water wells, in Arar city of Saudi Arabia, were measured by using Hyper Pure Germanium (HPGe) Detector. Concentrations o...

The spectral density of the metal-surface electromagnetic fields will be strongly modified in the presence of a closely-spaced quantum emitter. In this work, we propose a feasible way to probe the changes of the spectral density through the scattering of the waveguide photon incident on the quantum emitter. The variances of the lineshape in the transmission spectra indicate the coherent interac...

This report presents my work for Double Chooz at MIT during the 2009 Summer REU program, funded by Columbia University. Double Chooz is a reactor neutrino experiment that aims to measure the mixing parameter θ13. The experiment detects electron antineutrinos via inverse beta decay. Neutrons and light nuclei made in muon spallation are a major background to the experiment. The delayed neutron em...

A suite of software has been developed by Veridian Systems as part of the Prototype International Data Center (PIDC) to assist in the analysis of noble gas monitoring data for the Comprehensive Nuclear-TestBan Treaty (CTBT). There are two acceptable noble gas monitoring methods for CTBT verification purposes: high-resolution gamma-ray ( ) spectrometry and beta-gamma ( ) coincidence. Data from s...

This study assesses the level of background radiation for Canakkale province of northwestern Turkey. Radon concentrations in indoor air were determined using CR-39 nuclear track detectors and (222)Rn activity was found to be 167 Bq m( - 3) (equivalent to an annual effective dose of 4.2 mSv). Measurements of outdoor gamma radiation (of terrestrial and cosmic origin) in air were performed using p...

The effects of emitter degeneration on the oscillation frequency, output noise and tuning range of an emitter degenerated LC oscillator designed using bipolar transistors (BJT) is analyzed. Simulation results show increased oscillation frequency, tuning range and carrier-to-noise ratio (CNR). Design guidelines for emitter degenerated LC oscillators are also given.

One approach to super-resolution fluorescence microscopy, termed stochastic localization microscopy, relies on the nanometer scale spatial localization of individual fluorescent emitters that stochastically label specific features of the specimen. The precision of emitter localization is an important determinant of the resulting image resolution but is insufficient to specify how well the deriv...

GaInP/GaAs Heterojunction Bipolar Transistors(HBTs) offer significant advantages over AlGaAs/GaAs devices such as large valence band discontinuity and excellent etching selectivity as demonstrated by the authors[1] and other laboratories. Excellent microwave properties have been obtained using GaInP HBT[2] and Chemical Beam Epitaxy(CBE) using TBA/TBP precursors has been reported for material gr...
