The distal radioulnar joint (DRUJ) acts in concert with the proximal radioulnar joint to control forearm rotation. The DRUJ is stabilized by the triangular fibrocartilage complex (TFCC). This complex of fibrocartilage and ligaments support the joint through its arc of rotation, as well as provide a smooth surface for the ulnar side of the carpus. TFCC and DRUJ injuries are part of the common pa...

A traumatic avulsion of the flexor tendon at the musculotendinous junction in nonamputated digits is a very rare injury. We present a 14-year-old girl who sustained a longitudinal, tensile, injurious force directly to the flexor pollicis longus tendon after an open thenar injury resulting in its avulsion at the musculotendinous junction. In an effort to minimize soft-tissue damage and preserve ...

2 Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, MA Perilunate injuries result from high-energy trauma to the carpus. Early diagnosis and treatment is essential to optimizing outcome. Initial management should consist of closed reduction of any carpal malalignment. Subsequent open reduction with percutaneous pinning or internal screw fixation and soft tissue repair i...

Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) is by far the most common cause of median nerve damage. The carpal tunnel is an anatomical compartment of the hand; it is bounded on three sides by carpal bones which form an arch, and on the palmar side by the transverse carpal ligament. Pathogenesis CTS results from compromise of median nerve function at the wrist, caused by increased pressure in the carpal tunnel...
