the interactions of β-lactoglobulin ab in the presence of cationic surfactants such as cetyltrimethylammonium bromide and cetyltrimethylammonium p-toluenesulfonate have been investigated using a variety of experimental techniques such as conductivity, uv-vis spectrophotometry and fluorimetry. the conductivity of surfactants aqueous solutions with β-lactoglobulin shows that the cmc of cationic s...
one of the problems encountered in ce separations of basic compounds is the adsorption of analytes onto the negatively charged capillary wall which could lead to poor repeatability of migration time and peak area. additionally, separation of enantiomers of chiral of basic drugs is commonly carried out in low ph buffer which contributes to strong ionic interaction of the cationic drug ions with ...
Cationic peptides termed protein transduction domains (PTDs) have been shown to cross biological membranes efficiently. However, proteins transduced by PTDs become entrapped within the endosomal vesicles and are not delivered into organelles. We have developed a novel protein delivery system to enhance the proton sponge effect, which results in rupture of the endosomes, by using a mixture of Wr...
Surfactants such as didodecyldimethyl ammonium bromide (DDAB) and 1,2-dilauroyl-sn-phosphatidylcholine (DLPC) form bilayers at the walls of bare silica capillaries. Once formed, these bilayers are stable in the absence of surfactant in the buffer. DDAB provides a cationic bilayer coating which yields a strong reversed EOF and is effective for separation of cationic proteins. DLPC provides a zwi...
The mode of action of short, nonhelical antimicrobial peptides is still not well understood. Here we show that these peptides interact with ATP and directly inhibit the actions of certain ATP-dependent enzymes, such as firefly luciferase, DnaK, and DNA polymerase. α-Helical and planar or circular antimicrobial peptides did not show such interaction with ATP.
This study evaluated peripheral eosinophil and serum eosinophilic cationic protein (s-ECP) levels as markers of asthma control. A total of 38 children with asthma (16 controlled and 22 partially controlled) were compared with 16 age- and sex-matched healthy children. Total asthma cases had higher eosinophil counts and s-ECP levels than healthy children and partially controlled asthmatics had si...
Herein we report a highly-efficient solid-phase strategy for the modular synthesis of 63 double-tailed lipid-peptide conjugates and their application in DNA delivery.
The article deals with the clinical value of monitoring serum eosinophil cationic protein (ECP) in patients with allergic diseases, especially bronchial asthma in paediatric practice. We confirmed the seasonal increase of serum ECP level in group of patients with bronchial asthma especially with higher total IgE level.
In previous papers, we characterised 3 types of 4-kDa, cysteine-rich, cationic antimicrobial peptides: MGDs (for Mytilus galloprovincialis defensins), mytilins and myticins, which are abundant in the mussel hemocytes. In the present work, we revealed a differential distribution of the cells expressing the different genes. In addition, using confocal and electron microscopy, we confirmed that de...
