BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Cerebellar hypoperfusion in the contralateral hemisphere after stroke is well studied and termed crossed cerebellar diaschisis. However, studies of hypoperfusion in the ipsilateral thalamus have been few. The purpose of this study was to investigate the prevalence of hypoperfusion and vasoreactivity to acetazolamide in the thalamus and cerebellum after stroke. METHODS W...

Patients with cerebellar infarction should not be neglected because they can experience sudden clinical deterioration from cerebellar swelling. Compared with malignant middle cerebral artery infarctions, malignant cerebellar infarctions can be more urgent because of the smaller space of the posterior fossa, consecutive brain stem compression, and obstructive hydrocephalus. In these situations, ...

Introduction: Sexual dimorphisms in biological structures such as brain and behaviour have been widely recognized in animals and humans. The purpose of this study was to examine whether there are sex differences in the size of the cerebellum with other body traits, such as the head, tail and brain. Methods: Twelve grasscutters comprising of 6 males and 6 females were used in this study. Each b...

BACKGROUND In the recent literature there is no consensus regarding the relationships between crossed cerebellar diaschisis (CCD) with the primary lesion size, severity or location. Thus, the aim of the present study was to investigate relationship between the size and severity of cerebral lesions and CCD in patients with chronic stroke, using voxel-based analysis of Tc-99m ECD single-photon em...

The cerebellum historically has been thought to mediate motor and sensory signals between the body and cerebral cortex, yet cerebellar lesions are also associated with altered cognitive behavioral performance. Neuroimaging evidence indicates that the cerebellum contributes to a wide range of cognitive, perceptual, and motor functions. Here, we used the BrainMap database to investigate whole-bra...

Cerebellar pilocytic Astrocytoma is a benign tumor, acounts for 80% of all cerebellar Astrocytoma, and has a relatively good prognosis. This tumor usually presents with Ataxia and in the case of hydrocephaly with raised intracranial pressure signs such as headeach, and vomiting. Treatment of this tumor is complete resection and if hydrocephally is present V.P. shunt should be inserted. In the c...

Ensemble recording in cerebellar cortex of awake rats presents unique methodological challenges not encountered when recording from the cerebral cortex or from deep brain structures with more homogeneous cell populations. Compared to the cerebral cortex, removal of dura over the cerebellum evokes pronounced swelling, and insertion of multiple closely spaced electrodes in the cerebellar cortex c...

We report the cerebral MR imaging findings in a patient with pathologically proved Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease in whom predominant gray and white matter degeneration was seen within 1 year of symptom onset. The initial MR signal abnormalities in the basal ganglia were subtle. A follow-up MR examination revealed diffuse cerebral and cerebellar atrophy and demyelination.

BACKGROUND Arterial thromboses, including cerebral infarction, are a rare complication of the nephrotic syndrome. SUMMARY OF REPORT A 37-year-old woman presented with right upper extremity ischemia, left middle cerebral artery thrombosis, and right cerebellar infarction. She quickly herniated, and postmortem evaluation revealed membranous nephropathy. Increased fibrinogen and decreased free p...
