BACKGROUND The laparoscopic surgery has opened a new era in the field of surgery. Currently, it is accepted as the "gold standard" in the treatment of symptomatic cholelithiasis. However, laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC) performed for acute cholecystitis is technically difficult because of severe inflammatory adhesions and distortion of the biliary anatomy. The objective of this study was to c...

Introduction: Laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC) is now the standard procedure for the treatment of symptomatic gallbladder stones. Although laparoscopic cholecystectomy has numerous advantages it has increased risk of injury to common bile duct, duodenum, bowel, iliac vessels, high conversion rate in acute cholecystitis and difficulty in management of simultaneous CBD stones. Ultrasonography is...

Spontaneous cholecystocutaneous fistula is a rare complication of chronic calculous cholecystitis because currently gallstones are diagnosed and treated at an early stage. This occurrence is possible even if it seems actually to be rare. We report the case of a 90-year-old woman admitted to our hospital with diarrhea of 4 days duration and low-grade fever (37.5°C). On physical examination, she ...

OBJECTIVE Controversy exists regarding the use and timing of laparoscopic cholecystectomy in the treatment of both acute and chronic cholecystitis. Acute advocates claim to avoid fibrosis and potential dissection injuries, whereas chronic proponents avoid poor visualization due to edema and possible conversion. This study of both acute and chronic cholecystitis cases examines the relationships ...

A case of suspected chronic cholecystitis who underwent laparotomy, was found to have agenesis of gall bladder. Standard investigative modalities which are done for chronic cholecystitis might be fallacious and baffling. Agenesis of gall bladder should be kept in mind whenever the gall bladder is improperly visualised in routine imaging methods.

INTRODUCTION Epithelial corrective and destructive mechanisms have not been studied in inflammatory gallbladder disease. METHODS Epithelial apoptosis, cell proliferation and expression of hypoxia-inducible factor (HIF)-1alpha were compared in gallbladders from patients with acute acalculous cholecystitis (AAC; n = 30) and acute calculous cholecystitis (ACC; n = 21), and from patients undergoi...

Objective:A prospective randomized study was undertaken to compare effects of laparoscopic surgery for acute versus chronic cholecystitis. Method:During a period of 2.5 years 60 patients of which 30 having acute and another 30 having chronic cholecystitis were operated by laparoscopic cholecystectomy and results were noted. Results:Intraoperative adhesions(43.33%) were significantly more with c...
