The optical technique based on the measurement of delayed luminescence emitted from the biological samples has demonstrated its ability to provide valid and predictive information on the functional status of various biological systems. We want to extend this technique to study the effect of ionizing radiation on biological systems. In particular we are interested in the action of ion beams, use...

In this paper we describe a novel method for evidential reasoning [1]. It involves mod elling the process of evidential reasoning in three steps, namely, evidence structure con struction, evidence accumulation, and deci sion making. The proposed method, called 'RfS, is novel in that evidence strength is associated with an evidential support relationship (an argu ment) between a pair of stat...

We show that near-surface defects produced by mechanical treatments and electron irradiation can significantly enhance the intensity of luminescence due to the decay of self-trapped excitons sSTEsd in single-crystal calcium fluoride during 157and 193-nm irradiation. For example, polishing can double the intensity of the STE luminescence. Defects produced by mechanical indentation can either inc...

Fluorescence/phosphorescence (referred in this article simply as luminescence) based-detections arguably are the most widely used detection technique for biological assays, imaging, and sensing. This is primarily due to its high detection sensitivity and the commercial availability of a large number of fluorescence probes [1-3]. Key to the usefulness of luminescence methods is the ability to se...

Effect of the pump power on photoluminescence intensity for dislocation-related luminescence centers is studied in p-type silicon containing oxygen precipitates. Oxygen precipitates are induced as a result three-stage annealing used formation getter fast diffusing impurities microelectronics technology while D1 and D2 were produced during subsequent flow argon at 1000 o C. The excitation effici...

A wideband near-IR (NIR) luminescence centered at 1080 nm was found in a RbPb(2)Cl(5):Bi single crystal grown by the Bridgman technique. Absorption, luminescence, and excitation of luminescence spectra were investigated at room and cryogenic temperatures. The luminescence was proposed to be due to the (3)P(1)-->(3)P(0) transition in Bi(+) ion.

A series of phenylphosphonates, Zn(1-x)Mn(x)(O(3)PC(6)H(5)) x H(2)O, where x = 0, 0.005, 0.25, 0.5, 0.75 and 1.0, has been prepared and their photoluminescence responses studied. The presence of Mn in the sample results in a red emission, whilst when x = 0 the emission is green. Levels of Mn <1 mol% result in an orange emission. Ag(6)(m-O(3)PC(6)H(4)CO(2))(2) has been prepared by hydrothermal r...

Organic and inorganic clusteroluminescence have attracted great attention while the underlying mechanisms is still not well understood. In article number 2021, 2, e36, Ben Zhong Tang co-workers reported an ancient AIE system with radioluminescence properties, mechanism of including how does chromophore form solid structures influence luminescence behaviors been discussed.
