In this paper, we introduce Kangaroo, a constraint-based local search system. While existing systems such as Comet maintain invariants after every move, Kangaroo adopts a lazy strategy, updating invariants only when they are needed. Our empirical evaluation shows that Kangaroo consistently has a smaller memory footprint than Comet, and is usually significantly faster.

The AAA-ATPase thyroid hormone receptor interacting protein 13 (TRIP13), jointly with the Mad2-binding protein p31(comet), promotes the inactivation of the mitotic (spindle assembly) checkpoint by disassembling the mitotic checkpoint complex (MCC). This checkpoint system ensures the accuracy of chromosome segregation by delaying anaphase until correct bipolar attachment of chromatids to the mit...

BACKGROUND A COS represents an agreed minimum set of outcomes that should be measured and reported in all trials of a specific condition. The COMET (Core Outcome Measures in Effectiveness Trials) initiative aims to collate and stimulate the development and application of COS, by including data on relevant studies within a publically available internet-based resource. In recent years, there has ...

OBJECTIVES Obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) is associated with repeated hypoxia and re-oxygenation. This characteristic of OSAS may cause oxidative stress and DNA damage. However, the link of OSAS with oxidative stress and DNA damage is still controversial. In the current study, we investigated whether OSAS causes DNA damage using alkaline single-cell gel electrophoresis (comet assay) an...

The comet assay is considered to be a rapid and sensitive procedure for quantitating DNA damage in mammalian cells. In this article, to interpret its outcomes adequately, its power to detect low level genotoxicity and factors affecting its power were reviewed. Although the development of initial lesions into alkali-labile sites and/or SSBs through repairing events is an important factor to supp...

BMJ Case Rep Published online: [please include Day Month Year] doi:10.1136/ bcr-2013-009896 DESCRIPTION The comet-tail artefact appears as a dense tapering trail of echoes just distal to a strongly reflecting structure. This reverberation type of artefact occurs when there is a marked difference in acoustic impedances between an object and its...

We review the composition of Jupiter-family comet dust as inferred from infrared spectroscopy. We find that Jupiter-family comets have 10 μm silicate emission features with fluxes roughly 20–25% over the dust continuum (emission strength 1.20–1.25), similar to the weakest silicate features in Oort Cloud comets. We discuss the grain properties that change the silicate emission feature strength (...

Methyleugenol (MEG), a constituent of human food, induces malignant tumors in multiple tissues of rats and mice. Although MEG forms DNA adducts and induces unscheduled DNA synthesis in rat liver, it is negative in many in vitro genetic toxicity assays. In the present study, we evaluated MEG-induced DNA damage in the rat using (1) the alkaline Comet assay, (2) the oxidative Comet assay, and (3) ...

Casearia sylvestris is used in Brazil as a popular medicine to treat ulcer, inflammation and tumour. Caseargrewiin F is a clerodane diterpene isolated from the ethanolic leaf extract of C.sylvestris. The aim of the study was to assess the capacity of the ethanolic extract of C.sylvestris leaves and caseargrewiin F to protect DNA and verify if both the compounds cause some DNA damage, using the ...

The Comet assay has been used widely in genetic toxicology, radiation biology and medical and environmental research. This assay detects single-strand breaks and alkali-labile sites in DNA and DNA degradation due to necrosis or apoptosis. It may also be modified to detect DNA cross-linking. Although a considerable number of chemicals have been tested in the assay there are many aspects of valid...
