Charged phenylalanine-rich dendritic peptides form highly stable and pH-switchable rod-like supramolecular copolymers, when co-assembled with a matching oppositely charged dendritic comonomer. Here, Besenius and coworkers demonstrate that by mismatching a strong with a weak -sheet encoded comonomer, both the stability and the pH-triggered disassembly of the copolymers shifts from pH 4.2 to bio...
Blood compatibility of polyamides has been improved by introducing amido-amine groups in polymer backbone. Polyamide block-copolymer are synthesized by reacting amine end-capped polyamides with N,N'-methylene-bisacrylamide. Polyamide block-copolymers, thus produced found to have the ability of absorbing heparin. Heparinized polyamide block-copolymers have shown significant improvement in blood ...
Randomly microphase-separated graft copolymers have been self-reorganized so as to exhibit a micellar structure with excellent connectivity upon tuning the solvent affinity. These copolymers are used as a structure-directing agent for organized mesoporous TiO(2) films with no grain boundaries, leading to enhanced solar conversion efficiency of dye-sensitized solar cells.
The self-asembly of block copolymers is a promising platform for the "bottom-up" fabrication of nanostructured materials and devices. This review covers some of the advances made in this field from the laboratory setting to applications where block copolymers are in use.
A simple, one-pot approach to synthesize random semicrystalline/amorphous multiblock copolymers (12-17 blocks per chain on average) is demonstrated that takes advantage of acyclic diene metathesis (ADMET) polymerization of α,ω-divinyl-terminated telechelic polyolefins. This synthetic approach offers a generic, viable and economical route to polyolefin-based multiblock copolymers and may be exte...
Polymer, heal thyself! Supramolecular ABA triblock copolymers formed by dimerization of 2-ureido-4-pyrimidinone (UPy) end-functionalized polystyrene-b-poly(n-butyl acrylate) (PS-b-PBA) AB diblock copolymers have been synthesized, resulting in a self-healing material that combines the advantageous mechanical properties of thermoplastic elastomers and the dynamic self-healing features of supramol...
A class of dialkoxyanthracene-containing diblock copolymers is synthesized which possesses visible light-responsivity. These copolymers can self-assemble into a micellar structure in water. Green visible light (540 nm) is able to scissor these anthracene species and cleave the diblock copolymer into two fragments, inducing disassembly of the self-assembled micelles.
Well-defined graft copolymers were obtained using a copper-catalysed azide-alkyne Huisgen's cycloaddition click reaction from both biocompatible and non-toxic poly(ε-caprolactone) and poly(2-methyl-2-oxazoline) homopolymers. Resulting amphiphilic copolymers proved to form micelles that could be used as potential drug carriers.
Sequence control in supramolecular copolymers is limited by the selectivity of the associating monomer end groups. Here we introduce the use of monomers with aminopyrimidinone and aminohydroxynaphthyridine quadruple hydrogen bonding end groups, which both homodimerize, but form even stronger heterodimers. These features allow the formation of supramolecular copolymers with a tunable composition...
Acrylic copolymers with appropriate compositions of counits having cationic charge with 2-carbon and 6-carbon spacer arms can show superior antibacterial activities with concomitant very low hemolytic effect. These amphiphilic copolymers represent one of the most promising synthetic polymer antibacterial systems reported.
