Chronic exposure to stressful experiences impairs synaptic plasticity. Previous studies have shown that the spine densities of pyramidal neurons, turnover mushroom-type spines, and excitatory–inhibitory balance in primary somatosensory cortex (S1) are modulated by stress. Trans-synaptic cell adhesion molecules (CAMs) implicated stress-induced deficits. However, it remains unknown whether stress...

P-selectin is a granule membrane protein of platelets and endothelial cells that is expressed at the plasma membrane after cell activation. To determine which residues in its cytoplasmic tail are important for sorting to storage granules during biosynthesis, we expressed P-selectin mutants in AtT-20, a murine cell line with secretory granules that contain the hormone corticotropin ('ACTH'). Imm...

Testicular adrenal rest tumors (TART) occur often as asymptomatic nodules in corticotropin-dependent lesions aberrant adrenal tissue in congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH) patients. The present manuscript is about an unusual case of a 16-year-old CAH patient due to 11β-hydroxylase deficiency. He underwent testicle biopsy because of testicle tumor suspicion and diagnosed with TART.

CONTEXT Corticotropin-releasing hormone (CRH), through the hypothalamic pituitary adrenal axis and other brain stress systems, is involved in the emotional dysregulation associated with cocaine dependence. Little is known about the response of cocaine-dependent individuals to CRH administration. OBJECTIVE The primary objective was to examine the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis and the sub...

The content of acetylcholine (ACh) in nerve terminals or the dorsal hippocampus was examined after intraventricular, intraseptal, or intrahippocampal administration of a variety of endorphin/corticotropin neuropeptides. beta-Lipotropin, alpha-endorphin, gamma-endorphin, alpha-melanotropin, beta-melanotropin, adrenocorticotropin-1-39 (ACTH1-39), and ACTH4-10 (1, 3, 10, or 30 micrograms each) did...
