By simply heating mixtures of alpha-cyclodextrins and dumbbell-like poly(ethylene glycol) derivatives at 120 degrees C, polyrotaxanes form spontaneously via reversible chain exchange between acylhydrazone bonds, which have been proven by analyses of diffusion-ordered NMR, WAXD, 1H NMR, solid-state 13C CP/MAS NMR, DSC and UV-Vis together.
Cyclodextrins facilitate non-covalent fluorescence energy transfer from a variety of pesticides to high quantum-yield fluorophores, resulting in a rapid, sensitive detection scheme for these compounds with detection limits as low as two micromolar. Immobilization of light-driven molecular shuttles onto the surface of the silicon nanowires (SiNWs) was realized. The α-cyclodextrins as the shuttles could be reversibly translocated along the thread by the optical stimuli. Such SiNWs-based molecular shuttles also exhibited sequential logic with optical stimuli as the input and fluorescence as the output.
