A method of diagnosis support allowing analogous consideration of fuzzy, scaled and precise medical parameters in reasoning is proposed in the paper. The method is based on Dempster-Shafer theory of evidence and makes it possible to represent conformity of patient’s findings with symptoms in diagnostic rules. Theoretical discussion is illustrated by an example.

We generalise belief functions to many-valued events which are represented by elements of Lindenbaum algebra of infinite-valued Łukasiewicz propositional logic. Our approach is based on mass assignments used in the Dempster–Shafer theory of evidence. A generalised belief function is totally monotone and it has Choquet integral representation with respect to a unique belief measure on Boolean ev...

This paper presents an efficient adaptation and application of the Dempster-Shafer theory of evidence, one that can be used effectively in a massively parallel hierarchical system for visual pattern perception. It describes the techniques used, and shows in an extended example how they serve to improve the system's performance as it applies a multiple-level set of processes.

John Yen l;sc 1 Information Sciences Institute 46i6 Admiralty Way l\Iarina del Rey. CA. 90292 Dempster's rule of combination has been the most controversial part of the Dempster-Shafer (D-S) theory. In particular, Zadeh has reached a conjecture on the noncombinability of evidence from a relational model of the D-S theory. In this paper. we will describe another relational model where D-S masses...

In the domain of ubiquitous computing, the ability to identify the occurrence of situations is a core function of being 'contextaware'. Given the uncertain nature of sensor information and inference rules, reasoning techniques that cater for uncertainty hold promise for enabling the inference process. In our work, we apply the Dempster Shafer theory of evidence to determine situation occurrence...

The issue of confidence factors in Knowledge Based Systems has become increasingly important and Dempster-Shafer (DS) theory has become increasingly popular as a basis for these factors. This paper discusses the need for an empirical interpretation of any theory of confidence factors applied to Knowledge Based Systems and describes an empirical interpretation of DS theory suggesting that the th...

We survey three applications of mathematical programming to rea soning under uncertainty a an application of linear programming to probabilistic logic b an application of nonlinear programming to Bayesian logic a combination of Bayesian inference with probabilistic logic and c an application of integer programming to Dempster Shafer theory which is a method of combining evidence from di erent s...

Dempster-Shafer evidence theory is a powerful tool in information fusion. When the evidence are highly conflicting, the counter-intuitive results will be presented. To adress this open issue, a new method based on evidence distance of Jousselme and Hausdorff distance is proposed. Weight of each evidence can be computed, preprocess the original evidence to generate a new evidence. The Dempster’s...

The management and combination of uncertain, imprecise, fuzzy and even paradoxical or high conflicting sources of information has always been and still remains of primal importance for the development of reliable information fusion systems. In this short survey paper, we present the theory of plausible and paradoxical reasoning, known as DSmT (Dezert-Smarandache Theory) in literature, developed...
