SiO2-TiO2 mixed oxides have been prepared by sol-gel technique from titanium tetraisopropoxide and tetraethylorthosilicate. The prepared materials were characterized by X-ray diffraction, FT-IR spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, nitrogen physisorption and UV-vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy. The results indicate that compared to pure TiO2, the SiO2-TiO2 mixed oxides show higher the...

Semiconductor TiO2 photocatalysis has attracted much attention due to its potential application in solving the problems of environmental pollution. In this paper, thiourea (CH4N2S) modified anatase TiO2 nanorods were fabricated by calcination of the mixture of TiO2 nanorods and thiourea at 600 °C for 2 h. It was found that only N element was doped into the lattice of TiO2 nanorods. With increas...

The health impact of exposure to TiO2 nanoparticles is poorly understood. We recently found treatment with TiO2 microor nanoparticles induce cell death in human astrocytes-like U87 astrocytoma cells and in normal human fibroblasts in a concentration-related manner. Because the cytotoxic effects of these nanoparticles in peripheral nervous system (PNS) neural cells have not been elucidated, we h...

Protein aggregation is a problem in biotechnology. High temperature is one of the most important reasons to enhance enzyme inactivation and aggregation in industrial systems. This work focuses on the effect of TiO2 and SiO2 nanoparticles on refolding and reactivation of lysozyme. In the presence of TiO2 and SiO2 nanoparticles, after enzyme heat treatment at 98C for 30 min, not only aggregates w...

We report the synthesis of TiO2 nanoparticles that uses the low-temperature reaction of low-valent organometallic precursors. Bis(cyclooctatetraene)titanium reacts with dimethyl sulfoxide in organic solution at temperatures as low as room temperature to produce TiO2. In the absence of any supporting ligand, the reaction gives precipitation of amorphous TiO2 powder; however, in the presence of b...

Currently, the discharge of wastewater and utilization phosphorus (P) in human activities cause some environmental problems, such as high organic pollutants aquatic environments which results dirty water sources, a shortage phosphate rock reserves due to demand P. Therefore, fuel energy struvite crystallization from waste sources can be considered interesting alternatives. In this work, modifie...

Absorption spectra (150-300 nm) of TiO2 and TiO2 modified with metal (Pt, Pd, and Au) nanoparticles were systematically measured using an attenuated total reflection-far ultraviolet spectrometer. The deposition of metal nanoparticles altered the spectral shape and intensity, indicating changes in the electronic states and photocatalytic activities of TiO2.

Titanium dioxide (TiO2) nanoparticles are one of the most highly manufactured and employed nanomaterials in the world with applications in copious industrial and consumer products. The liver is a major accumulation site for many nanoparticles, including TiO2, directly through intentional exposure or indirectly through unintentional ingestion via water, food or animals and increased environmenta...
