Feedback has been studied as a strategy for promoting energy conservation for more than 30 years, with studies reporting widely varying results. Literature reviews have suggested that the effectiveness of feedback depends on both how and to whom it is provided; yet variations in both the type of feedback provided and the study methodology have made it difficult for conclusions to be drawn. The ...
After an introduction on the role of colonial medicine in India, each of the following essays deals with a particular aspect of the subject. One takes up the role of British doctors in their assigned duty to protect the health of British soldiers on one hand and Indian prisoners on the other. Three deal with particular diseases-smallpox, cholera, and plague-chosen for the political controversy ...
I discuss a Monte Carlo algorithm for hadronization in the Lund string fragmentation picture, which conserves energy and momentum exactly as is proposed by the model. An embryo to this Monte Carlo is used to calculate the total decay density of a string. This is found to reach its predicted asymptotic behaviour already at a string energy of about six hadron masses. 1 e-mail [email protected]
Battery energy is a rare resource in MANET and it often affects the communication activities in network. In this paper, we first present an energy management model, in which each node can transfer its state between power-save mode and active mode. Based on such model, we propose a routing protocol for further energy control. In the protocol, a new routing function dealt with both MAC layer and ...
This paper presents a power saving technique for multi-hop ad hoc networks. Our protocol uses a virtual backbone for energy conservation and routing. We propose a variable history based sleeping time for the non coordinators. Our simulations indicate that this scheme offers more power savings in a network with sparse message density than most other schemes discussed in the literature. We also p...
China, as the world’s largest cement producer, accounts for more than 60% of global cement production. With the continuous development of the Chinese economy, resource and environmental constraints are becoming increasingly serious, and energy saving and emission reduction has become one of the choices with which all industries are faced in the process of development. The cement industry is one...
Wireless sensor networks are attracting increasing interest but su↵er from severe challenges such as power constraints and low data reliability. Sensors are often energy-hungry and cannot operate over the long term, and the data they gather are frequently erroneous in complex ways. The two problems are linked, but existing work typically treats them independently: in this paper we consider both...
– Dissipative particle dynamics (DPD) does not conserve energy and this precludes its use in the study of thermal processes in complex fluids. We present here a generalization of DPD that incorporates an internal energy and a temperature variable for each particle. The dissipation induced by the dissipative forces between particles is invested in raising the internal energy of the particles. Th...
It is emphasized that the collapse postulate of standard quantum theory can violate conservation of energy-momentum and there is no indication from where the energy-momentum comes or to where it goes. Likewise, in the Continuous Spontaneous Localization (CSL) dynamical collapse model, particles gain energy on average. In CSL, the usual Schrödinger dynamics is altered so that a randomly fluctuat...
