This is the first reported case in the veterinary literature of a knot in an epidural catheter. The report reviews this very rare complication and describes options for investigation and retrieval of catheters entrapped in the epidural space of any species.
We present this case report where we have used fluoroscopic localization of caudal space and caudal epidural catheter placement to conduct caudal epidural anaesthesia in a case of vaginal hysterectomy and colporrhaphy with co-morbidity of severe spinal deformity, valvular heart disease and pulmonary hypertension.
A 38-year-old man with Marfan syndrome presented with headache and neck pain. MR imaging revealed a large enhancing mass in the cervical anterior epidural space. Cervical laminectomy with biopsy of the lesion revealed a large engorged anterior epidural venous plexus (AEVP). Marfan syndrome may predispose the patient to enlargement of AEVP secondary to a vessel wall abnormality.
In contrast EVE with local anaesthetic causes leaks from epidural space to subarachnoid puncture and also perineural or transdural spread of the extradural solution to enhance intensity and block duration besides volume effect. 5-7 In this study, we aimed to evaluate the efficacy of epidural volume extension (EVE) with colloid on dose requirement of intrathecal bupivacaine with fentanyl to ABST...
BACKGROUND Herpes zoster is a disease caused by reactivation of varicella-zoster virus in sensory cranial nerves and dorsal root ganglion. Our presumption was that epidural administration of acyclovir near the viral burden could be more advantageous than intravenous (IV) administration. The cerebrospinal fluid concentration of acyclovir after epidural administration was determined to be higher ...
We read with much interest the article by S.J. Willing ( 1) that appeared in AJNR in 1991. The author states that epidural pneumatosis is commonly seen in trauma patients and that since computed tomography (CT) scans are seldom performed in spontaneous pneumomediastinum, a similar case has not been reported in the literature. Yoshimura, et al demonstrated the occurrence of epidural pneumatosis ...
Vascular uptake of contrast despite negative aspiration in interlaminar cervical epidural injection.
Pain Physician Vol. 9, No. 3, 2006 To the Editor: We report a case of intravascular uptake of contrast during interlaminar cervical epidural steroid injection (ESI) despite absence of spontaneous blood backflow through the needle hub and negative aspiration for blood. A 67-year-old female patient with neck pain and radiation of pain into her right shoulder and upper arm was referred to our pain...
BACKGROUND The level of sensory block in postoperative epidural analgesia has been correlated with conventional contrast epidurography in only one study, while low-dose CT scan epidurography with multiplanar reconstruction may be a better tool for this purpose. OBJECTIVES The primary objective of this study was to evaluate, by CT imaging and digital multiplanar reconstruction, the spread and ...
Non-discogenic sciatica can be caused by any lesion along the course of the lumbosacral nerve roots and sciatic nerve. We aim to present a rare case of refractory sciatica in an otherwise healthy 25-year-old man. He complained of left leg pain without significant back pain. Extensor hallucis longus muscle was weak on the left side with limited straight leg rising. On magnetic resonance imaging,...
