This is the first reported case in the veterinary literature of a knot in an epidural catheter. The report reviews this very rare complication and describes options for investigation and retrieval of catheters entrapped in the epidural space of any species.

We present this case report where we have used fluoroscopic localization of caudal space and caudal epidural catheter placement to conduct caudal epidural anaesthesia in a case of vaginal hysterectomy and colporrhaphy with co-morbidity of severe spinal deformity, valvular heart disease and pulmonary hypertension.

A 38-year-old man with Marfan syndrome presented with headache and neck pain. MR imaging revealed a large enhancing mass in the cervical anterior epidural space. Cervical laminectomy with biopsy of the lesion revealed a large engorged anterior epidural venous plexus (AEVP). Marfan syndrome may predispose the patient to enlargement of AEVP secondary to a vessel wall abnormality.
