This paper presents a frequency monitoring system for Korean wide-area power protection based on virtual FDR. The virtual FDR is introduced to enhance the simulation capability of frequency monitoring systems and consists of three parts: modeling, estimation, and simulation. Once a power grid model is obtained in the virtual FDR based on EMTP-RV, the frequency is estimated by DFT filtering and ...

BACKGROUND & AIMS Colorectal cancer (CRC) risk estimates based on family history typically include only close relatives. We report familial relative risk (FRR) in probands with various combinations, or constellations, of affected relatives, extending to third-degree. METHODS A population-based resource that includes a computerized genealogy linked to statewide cancer records was used to ident...

We calculate analytically the fluctuation-dissipation ratio (FDR) for Ising ferromagnets quenched to criticality, both for the long-range model and its short-range analog in the limit of large dimension. Our exact solution shows that, for both models, if the system is unmagnetized while if the initial magnetization is nonzero. This indicates that two different classes of critical coarsening dyn...

Previous research has shown that rating words for their relevance to a future scenario enhances memory for those words. The current study investigated the effect of future thinking on false memory using the Deese/Roediger-McDermott (DRM) procedure. In Experiment 1, participants rated words from 6 DRM lists for relevance to a past or future event (with or without planning) or in terms of pleasan...

Other-generated hypotheses are often considered easier to test than self-generated hypotheses. To determine the precise effects of other-generated hypotheses, we propose three kinds of effects and describe a study designed to test for these effects of hypothesis source. The three kinds of effects considered are: (i) hypothesis plausibility changes, (ii) skepticism changes, and (iii) process cha...

Introduction. Students' evaluation of teaching is a major concern in higher education. In this regard, during the past 30 years hundreds of papers have been published which because of various grounds from valid, reliable to useless, such papers cannot be easily summarized. The present study investigated for two purposes, first was to out line opinions of two groups of advocates and opposites a...

The recent hypothesis on the occurrence of sheet structure in the brain has posed many questions to the diffusion MRI (dMRI) community as to whether this structure actually exists and can be measured with dMRI. In this work, we exploit the capability of the discrete Lie bracket to infer information on the existence of sheet structure in real dMRI data.
