The purpose of this work is to present a Hardware Fault Simulation (HFS) methodology and tool (fs), using partial reconfiguration, suitable for efficient fault modeling and simulation in FPGAs. The methodology is particularly useful for BIST effectiveness evaluation, and for applications in which multiple fault injection is mandatory, such as in safety-critical applications. A novel (CSA – Comb...
The STATCOM (Synchronous Static Compensator) based on voltage source converter (VSC) is used for voltage regulation in transmission and distribution systems. The STATCOM can rapidly supply dynamic VARs required during system faults for voltage support. The apparent impedance is influenced by the reactive power injected or absorbed by the STATCOM, which will result in the under reaching or over ...
We simulated dynamic rupture propagation along various nonplanar fault models of the 1999 İzmit, Turkey, earthquake using a boundary integral equation method. These models were inferred from geological and geodetic observations. Based on these results, we modeled seismic-wave propagation around the fault system using a finite difference method. We focused on the effect of different fault geomet...
Analyzing and evaluating the sensitivity of embedded systems to soft-errors have always been a challenge for aerospace or safety equipment designer. Different automated fault-injection methods have been developed for evaluating the sensitivity of integrated circuit. Also many techniques have been developed to get a fault tolerant architecture in order to mask and mitigate fault injection in a c...
This paper describes the details of the research completed by the author at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville during the summer of 2016. It mainly focuses on the attempted software design during the program, including application and implementation. While this simulation had not been completed by the end of the program, many significant steps were taken toward completing the software dev...
Introduction: There are broadly two approaches for analogue fault diagnosis [1, 4, 5]. They are the fault analysis approach or simulation-after-test, and the fault dictionary approach or simulation-before-test. In this Letter, we are concerned with the first approach. In one kind of fault analysis approach called fault verification, equations of the nominal network are obtained. If k or less el...
A new fault model is developed for estimation of the coverage of physical defects by hierarchical defect simulation. At the higher level simulation we use the functional fault model, at the lower level we use the defect/fault relationships in the form of defect coverage table and the conditional defect probabilities. A description and the experimental data are given about probabilistic analysis...
An arbitrarily reliable quantum computer can be efficiently constructed from noisy components using a recursive simulation procedure, provided that those components fail with probability less than the fault-tolerance threshold. Recent estimates of the threshold are near some experimentally achieved gate fidelities. However, the landscape of threshold estimates includes pseudothresholds, thresho...
In this paper we introduce a new approach to fault simulation, using reconfigurable hardware to implement a critical path tracing algorithm. Our performance estimate shows that our approach is at least on order of magnitude faster than serial fault emulation used in prior work.
Simulation at the gate level is computationally very expensive. Parallel processing is one technique to reduce simulation time. Possessing knowledge of the distribution of computational activity in simulation can aid in parallelizing it eeciently. We present a new characterization of the distribution of the computational workload in fault simulation. Our empirical analysis shows that the worklo...
