background: laboratory bred sand flies are essential for the study of different biological phenomena including the transmission dynamics of leishmania . the aim of the study was to determine the suitable situation for colonization and maintenance of iranian strain of phlebotomus papatasi at laboratory conditions from an endemic focus of cutaneous leishmaniasis due to leishmania major . metho...

erythraeus (zaracarus) coleopterus mortazavi, hajiqanbar & saboori, 2012 (acari: parasitengona: erythraeidae) was described based on a single specimen from kerman province, southeastern iran, associated with a scarabaeid beetle, cyphonoxia sp. (coleoptera: scarabaeidae). this species reports for the second time from stored grain (off host) in saqqez and baneh cities, kurdistan province, western...

Accessory gland proteins (ACPs) are important reproductive proteins produced by the male accessory glands (MAGs) of most insect species. These proteins are essential for male insect fertility, and are transferred alongside semen to females during copulation. ACPs are poorly characterized in Glossina species (tsetse fly), the principal vector of the parasite that causes life-threatening Human Af...

Safflower having oil with high unsaturated fatty acids is a very valuable plant. However the sensitivity of safflower to some pests as safflower fly (Acanthiophilus helianthi), particularly in drought stress conditions has limited its production. In order to evaluate the effect of drought stress on population density and damage of important safflower pests, especially safflower fly, an experime...

BACKGROUND Maternally-transmitted associations between endosymbiotic bacteria and insects are ubiquitous. While many of these associations are obligate and mutually beneficial, many are facultative, and the mechanism(s) by which these microbes persist in their host lineages remain elusive. Inherited microbes with imperfect transmission are expected to be lost from their host lineages if no othe...

Drosophila melanogaster has been successfully used as a simple model to study the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying behaviors, including the generation of motor programs. Thus, it has been shown that, as in vertebrates, CNS biogenic amines (BA) including serotonin (5HT) participate in motor control in Drosophila. Several evidence show that BA systems innervate an important associatio...

A case of larva migrans or serpiginous linear dermatitis on the scalp of a teenager is reported. An ancylostomid larva was found within a sebaceous gland acinus. The unusual skin site for larva migrans as well as the penetration through the sebaceous gland are highlighted. The probable mechanism by which the parasite reached the skin adnexa is discussed.

The effect of Rathayibacter tritici on the movement of Anguina tritici larva and nematode function as vector of ear rot bacterium was conducted in the laboratory (Agarose plates) and greenhouse conditions. The results showed that the contact of nematode larva with high concentration of bacterium or long duration of nematode-bacteria contact can decrease the movement and the efficiency of nemato...
