The sulfur isotopic composition of dissolved sulfate in seawater has varied through time. Distinct variations and relatively high rates of change characterize certain time intervals. This allows for dating and correlation of sediments using sulfur isotopes. The variation in sulfur isotopes and the potential stratigraphic resolution of this isotope system is discussed and graphically displayed.

This report summarizes the international divisions and ages in the Geologic Time Scale, published in 2012 (GTS2012). Since 2004, when GTS2004 was detailed, major developments have taken place that directly bear and have considerable impact on the intricate science of geologic time scaling. Precam brian now has a detailed proposal for chronostratigraphic subdivision instead of an outdated and ab...

Volume 22 • Number 3 (2005) 29 A basic premise of the geodiversity concept recognizes that there is an intrinsic relationship between biological diversity and geological diversity. In principle, the geologic bedrock is viewed as the foundation of the ecosystem. Geologic resources and processes sustain much greater relationships with biotic resources and biosystems than is commonly recognized. T...

Gravitational loading or unloading due to deposition or erosion in sedimentary basins is one of the most common mechanisms responsible for abnormal fluid pressures in geologic formations. This paper examines the integrated response of fluid pressures to both deposition and erosion using vertical one-dimensional numerical models. The modeling results show that vertical loading and unloading of s...

With the development of GIS, its applications concern with different domains, such as geography, mapping, urban, traffic, geology, mine, military and so on. 3D GIS is the research hotspots in the domains of city, geology, mine etc. 3D GIS in city has been developed more quickly, CyberCity, for example is a smart application of 3D GIS, but it is slow in subsurface engineering because of its comp...

Introduction. An important first step in the current Mars exploration strategy [10] is the detection of sites where there is evidence for past or present near-surface water on Mars. This study evaluates the large-scale morphology of spring deposits and the physical processes of their formation, growth, and evolution in terms that relate to (1) their identification in image data, (2) their forma...

Mercury’s quadrangle H02 ‘Victoria’ is located in the planet’s northern hemisphere and lies between latitudes 22.5° N and 65° N, and between longitudes 270° E and 360° E. This quadrangle covers 6.5% of the planet’s surface with a total area of almost 5 million km. Our 1:3,000,000-scale geologic map of the quadrangle was produced by photo-interpretation of remotely sensed orbital images captured...
