The histological distribution of insulin like growth factor 1 (IGF 1) receptors in the rat gut was studied. Immunostaining of IGF 1 receptors identified localisation on the villus epithelium, in the crypts, and in Brunner's glands of the small intestine. These tissues represent areas of high cell growth/differentiation, division, and macromolecular synthesis respectively, which constitute biolo...

BACKGROUND The risk of malignant melanoma associated with histologically dysplastic naevi (HDN) has not been defined. While clinically atypical naevi appear to confer an independent risk of melanoma, no study has evaluated the extent to which HDN are predictive of melanoma. OBJECTIVES To estimate the risk of melanoma associated with HDN. Secondarily, the risk associated with number of naevi a...

The aim of this study was to verify whether histopathological features of extratumoral and of primary tumor breast tissue could play a role in identifying patients with familial characteristics. We examined the clinicopathological features of 504 patients with sporadic or familial breast cancer stratified for risk of BRCA mutation. Patients with a higher risk of being carrier of BRCA gene mutat...

Objective: To investigate histologically if a lack of protection of the deep lymphoid tissue in tonsillar crypts by an intact epithelial covering is an aetiological factor for tonsillitis. Method: A prospective histological study of the tonsillar crypt epithelium by immunostaining for cytokeratin in 34 consecutive patients undergoing tonsillectomy either for tonsillitis or tonsillar hypertrophy...

Angiosarcoma of the nasal cavity is extremely rare. We present a case of angiosarcoma of the nasal cavity in an eight-year-old boy. He was treated with medial maxillectomy via lateral rhinotomy. The histological diagnosis was confirmed by immunohistological stain with Factor VIII-like antigen. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) was useful in determining the extent of the tumour.

OBJECTIVES Vocal fold scarring is one of the most challenging laryngeal disorders to treat and there are currently no consistently effective treatments available. Our previous studies have shown the therapeutic potential of basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) for vocal fold scarring. However, the histological effects of bFGF on scarred vocal fold have not been elucidated. The aim of this stud...

Objective(s): Some histopathological alterations take place in the ischemic regions following brain ischemia. Recent studies have demonstrated some neuroprotective roles of crocin in different models of experimental cerebral ischemia. Here, we investigated the probable neuroprotective effects of crocin on the brain infarction and histopathological changes after transient model of focal cerebral...

Objective(s): The aim of the present research is to investigate the efficacy of L-carnitine (LC) as a complementary therapy to diclofenac sodium (Dic) treatment in a mono-iodoacetate (MIA) induced knee osteoarthritis (OA) rat model, with respect to pain relief and the underlying pathology.Materials and Methods: Fifty adult male albino ra...
