Data on the quality of a modified method for producing multiblocks from conventional blocks of paraffin wax embedded histological material are reported. Originally devised as a way of assessing antibodies for immunohistology, the technique is particularly suited to producing a set of reference and teaching material for use by trainee and senior pathologists.

Parenchymal and non-parenchymal cells were harvested by washing the liver tissue core and needle after percutaneous biopsy. The cytological material obtained was suitable for morphological analysis, including showing the presence of surface and cytoplasmic antigens using labelled antibody techniques. This technique provides a combined cytological and histological approach to the diagnosis of li...

Background Though some vertebral lesions have typical imaging findings, histological/ microbiological evidence are required for definitive diagnosis and management, specially for tumor and infective lesions so that wrong diagnosis and wrong treatment can be avoided. Conventionally, open biopsy methods are used. With availability of CT scan, MRI, percutaneous transpedicular vertebral biopsy has ...

Introduction: Non‐conventional techniques represent a more and more frequently employed alternative in medi‐ cine, firstly due to their minimally invasive character. Laser technologies represent forward‐looking methods to which numerous stomatologists resort, mainly because of their multiple applications in periodontology. The scope of the study was to identify the possible morpho‐histological ...

Our goal was to develop a novel technique for inducing Achilles tendinopathy in animal models which more accurately represents the progressive histological and biomechanical characteristic of chronic Achilles tendinopathy in humans. In this animal research study, forty-five rabbits were randomly assigned to three groups and given bilateral Achilles injections. Low dose (LD group) (n = 18) under...

The production of 0.4mu thick, full-length sections from renal tissue taken by needle biopsy is achieved by formalin and osmic acid fixation and embedding in epoxy resin as for ultramicrotomy. The marked improvement in histological clarity by using this technique is illustrated by comparison with material embedded in paraffin.

In this article we have proposed an integrated system for measurement of important features from 3D tissue images. We propose a segmentation technique, where we combine several methods to achieve a good degree of automation. Important histological and cytological three-dimensional features and strategies to measure them are described.

Fine needle aspiration biopsy of lymph nodes using a 19 gauge needle and Luer Lok syringe was performed in 59 cases. This was compared with histological diagnosis and an accuracy of 93.2% was achieved. This method is simple and is highly acceptable among patients. It is a very useful technique where a biopsy of lymph node is not possible (JPMA 30:267, 1980).

Peroperative transduodenal biopsy of the pancreas was performed in 65 patients with the disposable Trucut needle. The technique described is simple, effective, and may reveal unsuspected malignancy. A histological diagnosis of malignancy is reliable but false negative diagnosis may arise because of failure to obtain representative samples.

This is a case report of a renal carcinoma which was secreting inactive renin. Using an antibody to human renin and the indirect immunoperoxidase technique, the renin-containing cells were localised within the tumour. These were found to be small granular cells situated in a perivascular position. The histological immunocytochemical and ultrastructural features of these cells are described.
