Escherichia coli is commonly involved in infections with a heavy bacterial burden. Piperacillin-tazobactam and carbapenems are among the recommended empirical treatments for health care-associated complicated intra-abdominal infections. In contrast to amoxicillin-clavulanate, both have reduced in vitro activity in the presence of high concentrations of extended-spectrum β-lactamase (ESBL)-produ...
BACKGROUND Mechanical ventilation support can be the main source of ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP). VAP is a serious infection that may be associated with dangerous gram-negative bacteria mainly, and it leads to an increase in the mortality in the intensive care unit (ICU). Imipenem is one of the strongest antibiotics now available for treating VAP which is associated with gram-negative ...
The nephrotoxic beta-lactam antibiotics cephaloridine, cephaloglycin, and imipenem produce irreversible injury to renal mitochondrial anionic substrate uptake and respiration after 1 to 2 h of in vivo exposure. Toxicity during in vitro exposure is nearly identical but is immediate in onset and is reversed by the mitochondria being washed or the substrate concentrations being increased. A model ...
Background & Aim: Pseudomonas aeruginosa strains that were resistance to majority of commonly used antibiotics were caused problem in treatment of these infections. Imipenem is the excessive potential antibiotic for elimination of antibiotic resistance isolates of these bacteria. Aim of this study was, identification of imipenem effect on TEM beta-lactamase gene expression in resistant to antib...
A Monte Carlo simulation demonstrated that 1 g of meropenem (MEM) every 8 h (q8h) (3-h infusion) has a higher target attainment rate against Pseudomonas aeruginosa than either 500 mg of MEM q8h (3-h infusion) or 0.5 g of imipenem-cilastatin (I-C) q6h (1-h infusion). For other pathogens, 500 mg of MEM q8h was equivalent or superior to I-C.

background and objectives : carbapenem resistant pseudomonas aeruginosa is a serious cause of nosocomial infections.the main purpose of the study is to determine the prevalence rate of imipenem resistant pseudomonas aeruginosa carrying metallo- beta- lactamase (mbl) genes. material and methods : 236 pseudomonas aeruginosa isolates were collected from teaching hospitals of ahvaz university of me...
background: failure in the treatment of burn patients infected with pseudomonas aeruginosa could happen as a result of the acquisition of antibiotic resistance, including carbapenems. objectives: the aim of the present study was to investigate the phenotypic and genotypic characteristics of the pseudomonas aeruginosa strains, isolated from burn patients. patients and methods: during a 12 month ...
Background & objectives: Nowadays, bacterial resistance and the increase in the therapeutic costs are considered as the most important global concerns of medical care system regarding complicated infections. Imipenem is a member of the carbapenem class of beta-lactam antibiotics prescribed mostly in our hospitals because of its broad activity against bacterial infections. Drug Utilization Eva...
