We present K-band spectra of the near infrared counterparts to IRS2E and IRS2W which is associated with the ultracompact HII region W51d, both of them embedded sources in the Galactic compact HII region W51 IRS2. The high spatial resolution observations were obtained with the laser guide star facility and Near infrared Integral Field Spectrograph (NIFS) mounted at the Gemini North observatory. ...

We discuss the instrumental factors which constrain the sensitivity limits of the mid-infrared camera (ISOCAM) of ESA's Infrared Space Observatory (ISO). The observing strategy judged to be best suited to faint-source detection is described. A data analysis technique adapted to the extraction of the faintest point-sources is discussed. We report the application of these techniques to an extreme...

A fiber laser using a thulium-doped ZBLAN gain medium was used to generate laser radiation simultaneously at 1461, 1505 and 1874 nm, with > 5 mW output power at each of the wavelengths. The laser was used to quantify the near-infrared absorption of liquid water in acetone. Additionally, near-infrared spectra were recorded using a broad band source and were interpreted using parallel factor (PAR...

We present several models for IRS 13E, an infrared, mm and X-ray source in the Galactic Center. Our favored interpretation is that of an early-type binary with strong colliding winds emission. This naturally explains the observed X-ray count rate and the strong infrared emission lines, and has a distinct advantage over competing hypotheses based upon a single star or black-hole system.

The Maryland Infrared Free-Electron Laser (MIRFEL) is under construction at the University of Maryland. MIRFEL, based on the Advanced Energy Systems CIRFEL, is a source of far-infrared (FIR) light for physics, medical, and materials science research. A project to investigate vibrational modes in DNA is currently planned. These vibrations may be involved in information transfer and gene transcri...

We present optical and near–infrared Keck spectroscopy of CXOHDFN J123635.6+621424 (hereafter HDFX28), a hard X–ray source at a redshift of z = 2.011 in the flanking fields of the Hubble Deep Field– North (HDF–N). HDFX28 is a red source (R − Ks = 4.74) with extended steep–spectrum (α 8.4 GHz

A surface-shrinking algorithm is demonstrated for automated source position localization one scattering depth into discretized simulation domains, in near-infrared imaging. The algorithm allows users to accurately place source fiber locations with minimal guidance. OCIS codes: (100.0100) Image Processing; (100.3010) Image Reconstruction Techniques

The brightest continuum source in the Orion Molecular Cloud-3 region (OMC3), MMS 6, was observed with the Very Large Array (VLA), the Nobeyama Millimeter Array (NMA), and the Submillimeter Array (SMA). Our data were supplemented by nearto mid-infrared archival data taken by Spitzer Space Telescope. The compact continuum source, MMS 6-main, was detected with an H2

Introduction: Functional Near-Infrared Spectroscopy (fNIRS) is an imaging method in which light source and detector are installed on the head; consequently, re-emission of light from human skin contains information about cerebral hemodynamic alteration. The spatial probability distribution profile of photons penetrating tissue at a source spot, scattering into the tissue, and being released at ...
