Mobile IP is the current standard proposed by IETF for mobility management in IP networks. Mobile node communicating with static correspondent node (CN) has been considered in previous performance studies. We propose the mobility of CN and two additional mobility combinations for Mobile IP in this paper. CN mobility causes performance degradation in an environment with frequent handoffs. A new ...

The performance of IPv6 in the radio link can be improved using header compression algorithms. The 3GPP (3rd Generation Partnership Project) consortium in its technical specification has adopted the ROHC (RObust Header Compression) protocol of the IETF (Internet Engineering Task Force) standard track for real-time applications using RTP/UDP/IPv6 and UDP/IPv6. This paper presents the analysis of...

The successful and increasingly adopted Session initiation Protocol (SIP) does not adequately support hosts with multiple network addresses, such as dual-stack (IPv4-IPv6) or IPv6 multi-homed devices. This paper presents the Address List EXtension (ALEX) to SIP that adds effective support to systems with multiple addresses, such as dual-stack hosts or multi-homed IPv6 hosts. ALEX enables IPv6 t...

With the natural convergence of wireless communications and Internet technology, mobile real-time services such as wireless mobile Internet telephony will be ubiquitous. Since the emerging Third Generation (3G) wireless networks will adopt Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6), simultaneous Quality of Service (QoS) and mobility support in IPv6 is becoming an imperative need. The Internet Engineeri...

The Internet Protocol Version 6 (IPv6) transition opens a wide scope for potential attack vectors. Tunnel-based IPv6 transition mechanisms could allow the set-up of egress communication channels over an IPv4-only or dual-stack network while evading detection by a network intrusion detection system (NIDS). Increased usage of IPv6 in attacks results in long-term persistence, sensitive information...

The benchmarking methodologies defined in RFC 2544 are IP version independent. However, RFC 2544 does not address some of the specificities of IPv6. This document provides additional benchmarking guidelines, which in conjunction with RFC 2544, lead to a more complete and realistic evaluation of the IPv6 performance of network interconnect devices. IPv6 transition mechanisms are outside the scop...

This note describes a framework for IPv4/IPv6 translation. This is in the context of replacing Network Address Translation Protocol Translation (NAT-PT), which was deprecated by RFC 4966, and to enable networks to have IPv4 and IPv6 coexist in a somewhat rational manner while transitioning to an IPv6 network.

This paper describes a new network architecture called LINA (Location Independent Network Architecture) that supports node mobility. It also describes a new protocol called LIN6 that is based on LINA. LIN6 is fully compatible with IPv6 and free from the problems of Mobile IPv6. Our prototype implementation of LIN6 has a much lower processing overhead in comparison with conventional IPv6.

The Intra-Site Automatic Tunnel Addressing Protocol (ISATAP) connects IPv6 hosts/routers over IPv4 networks. ISATAP views the IPv4 network as a link layer for IPv6 and views other nodes on the network as potential IPv6 hosts/routers. ISATAP supports automatic tunneling and a tunnel interface management abstraction similar to the NonBroadcast, Multiple Access (NBMA) and ATM Permanent/Switched Vi...

The paper proposes a communication model of implementing an Anycast service in an Ad Hoc network which is connected to IPv6 networks where IPv6 nodes can obtain the Anycast service provided by the Ad hoc network. In this model when an Anycast mobile member in an Ad hoc network moves it can keep the existing communications with its corresponding nodes to continue providing the Anycast services w...
