In this work, we report on the synthesis of superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles at room temperature using microemulsion template phase consisting of cyclohexane, water, CTAB as cationic surfactant and butanol as a cosurfactant. Surface modification have been carried out by using poly(ethyleneglycol) (PEG). The structure, morphology, and magnetic properties of the products were characteriz...

The origin of the Proterozoic Choghart iron oxide deposit in the Bafq mining district of Central Iran has been the subject of a long-standing dispute. Some authors believe that it was formed from magma, while others suggest metasomatic replacement of preexisting rocks. The present study on the basis of new oxygen isotope, REE and geochemical data concludes that neither of these two hypotheses c...

BACKGROUND Some epidemiological studies have shown that increased iron stores are associated with increased cardiovascular events. Redox-active iron may contribute to lipid peroxidation, endothelial cell activation, and generation of reactive oxygen species (especially hydroxyl radical, via Fenton chemistry). Increased oxidative stress is associated with impaired action of endothelium-derived n...

Superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles show potential in magnetic targeting of inhaled aerosols to localized sites within the lung. These particles are also used as contrast agents in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). In the present work, we examine the feasibility of measuring regional lung deposition of iron oxide nanoparticles using MRI. Mice were exposed nose-only to nebulized superpara...

Iron oxide contrast agents have been combined with magnetic resonance imaging for cell tracking. In this review, we discuss coating properties and provide an overview of ex vivo and in vivo labeling of different cell types, including stem cells, red blood cells, and monocytes/macrophages. Furthermore, we provide examples of applications of cell tracking with iron contrast agents in stroke, mult...

Dietary iron oxide nanoparticles are shown to ameliorate neurodegeneration in a Drosophelia Alzheimer's disease model. Iron oxide nanoparticles can mimic catalase and can decompose reactive oxygen species (ROS). This has potential therapeutic uses for aging, metabolic disorders, and neurodegenerative diseases, in which increased production of ROS is closely implicated.

Iron oxide nanowires are synthesized by photochemical method through nanosecond pulsed laser ablation of iron powder in liquid media. The synthesis is tried using various wavelengths (248 and 532 nm) of pulsed laser at different liquids (water, ethanol, methanol, isopropanol and glycol). The solution of iron oxide nanowires is obtained only in methanol when the iron powder (size < 60 μm) is irr...

Enhanced S(1)--> T(1) intersystem crossing of silicon phthalocyanine (SiPc) owing to iron oxide nanoparticles and intense MCD signal of diamagnetic SiPc have been experimentally shown by using SiPcs supported on magnetic silica gel, in which the iron oxide nanoparticles were effectively dispersed.
