We have recently generated immortalized fetal brown adipocyte cell lines from insulin receptor substrate 1 (IRS-1) knockout mice and demonstrated an impairment in insulin-induced lipid synthesis as compared to wild-type cell lines. In this study, we investigated the consequences of IRS-1 deficiency on mitogenesis in response to insulin. The lack of IRS-1 resulted in the inability of insulin-sti...

Insulin receptor substrate-1 (IRS-1) is a signaling adaptor protein that interfaces with many pathways activated in lung cancer. It has been assumed that IRS-1 promotes tumor growth through its ability to activate PI3K signaling downstream of the insulin-like growth factor receptor. Surprisingly, tumors with reduced IRS-1 staining in a human lung adenocarcinoma tissue microarray displayed a sig...

The insulin receptor substrate (IRS) proteins are cytoplasmic adaptors that organize signaling complexes downstream of activated cell surface receptors. Here, we show that IRS-1 and IRS-2, despite significant homology, play critical, yet distinct functions in breast cancer and we identify specific signaling pathways that are influenced by IRS-1 using the Polyoma Virus Middle-T (PyV-MT) transgen...

Interleukins 9 (IL-9) and 4 are cytokines within the IL-2 receptor gamma chain (IL-2R gamma) superfamily that possess similar and unique biological functions. The signaling mechanisms, which may determine cytokine specificity and redundancy, are not well understood. IRS proteins are tyrosine-phosphorylated following IL-9 and IL-4 stimulation, a process in part mediated by JAK tyrosine kinases (...

Accelerated land use change is a current challenge for environmental management worldwide. Given the urgent need to incorporate economic and ecological goals in landscape planning, cost-effective conservation strategies are required. In this study, we validated benefit of fusing imagery from multiple sensors assess impact changes on ecosystem services (ES) their values Long County, Shaanxi Prov...

OBJECTIVE Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a common endocrinologic disease in women. In the present study, we examined the relationship of the IRS-1 Gly972Arg and IRS-2 Gly1057Asp polymorphisms to PCOS and phenotypic features of PCOS in a Chinese population from Taiwan. MATERIALS AND METHODS A total of three hundred and forty genetically unrelated women with age from 18 to 45 years, includ...

We introduce the notion of Linear Integer Secret-Sharing (LISS) schemes, and show constructions of such schemes for any access structure. We show that any LISS scheme can be used to build a secure distributed protocol for exponentiation in any group. This implies, for instance, distributed RSA protocols for arbitrary access structures and with arbitrary public exponents.

Monitoring changes in landscape cover types has been a great concern for forest and wildlife managers. Both managers find it very important to know how much area is suitable for wildlife species and what areas are affected due to anthropogenic pressure. To address these concerns, evaluation of Chandoli National Park was done to see the changes that have taken place over the past 28 years. The N...

The mountainous state of Himachal Pradesh is known for its vast natural wealth, including forests, alpine meadows, rivers and valleys endowed with a rich array of life forms. However, this biodiversity hot spot is under great peril owing to human-induced disturbance factors. The findings on spatial representation of the habitat at a scale which can be used for conservation planning and rehabili...

The main objective of the present study is to investigate the hydrogeology of the Jalakandapuram sub – basin, groundwater potential and quality of groundwater for domestic, industrial and agricultural purposes. Jalakandapuram ( Latitudes 11° 35‟30‟‟N to 11°46‟25‟‟N and Longitudes 77°48‟30‟‟ E to 78°2‟E) Subbasin is one among the four subbasins of the Sarabanga minor basins which comes under the...
