background beta-thalassemia patients receive blood products from blood transfusion centers repeatedly. blood transfusion can transmit cytomegalovirus (cmv) and toxoplasma gondii. the aim of this study was serological evaluation of these two infectious agents in thalassemia patients. materials and methods in a cross-sectional study, the enzymelinked immunosorbent assay (elisa) testing was perfor...

Background & Aims: Toxoplasma gondii is an important zoonotic disease. Infection with toxoplasma especially asymptomatic infection in pregnant women leads to congenital toxoplasmosis, making abortion, congenital abnormalities in the fetus, and severe damages in individuals with immunodeficiency. The aim of this study was to evaluate seroepidemiology and the risk factors of toxoplasmosis in p...

Immunization of BALB/c mice with an expression genomic library of Toxoplasma gondii induces a Th1-type immune response, with recognition of several T. gondii proteins (21 to 117 kDa) and long-term protective immunity against a lethal challenge. These results support further investigations to achieve a multicomponent anti-T. gondii DNA vaccine.

Toxoplasma gondii is a parasitic protozoan which is the cause of toxoplasmosis. Although human toxoplasmosis in healthy adults is usually asymptomatic, serious disease can occur in the case of congenital infections and immunocompromised individuals. Furthermore, despite the exact recognition of its etiology, it still presents a diagnostic problem. Diagnosis of toxoplasmosis is mainly based on t...

Toxoplasmosis is a parasitic disease with worldwide distribution and a major public health problem. In Algeria, no data are currently available about genotypes of Toxoplasma gondii isolated from animals or humans. The present study assesses for the first time the seroprevalence of toxoplasmosis in stray cats, and provides molecular characterization of T. gondii strains circulating in this felin...

Neospora caninum (N. caninum) and Toxoplasma gondii (T. gondii) are both obligate intracellular protozoan parasites, which have gained considerable attention because of their role in bovine abortion. This study aimed to detect anti-N. caninum and -T. gondii in bulk milk of dairy cattle, Mashhad, Iran. The bulk milk samples were collected from July 2014 to June 2015 and analyzed for anti-N. cani...

BACKGROUND Toxoplasma gondii is a zoonotic pathogen that can infect a range of animals and humans. Ingestion of T. gondii oocysts in soil is a significant transmission route for humans and animals acquiring toxoplasmosis. In the present study, we developed a new semi-nested PCR method to determine T. gondii oocysts distribution in soils in northwestern China. RESULTS The one tube semi-nested ...

background: toxoplasma gondii is an intracellular parasite, which infects one-third population of world. humans and animals acquire infection by ingesting oocytes from feces of cats or by meat of other animals having cysts that may lead to congenital, ocular or cephalic toxoplasmosis. either it is important to detect t. gondii from meat of food animals from retail shops or directly at slaughter...

In vitro activation of macrophage cell line J774G8 and mouse peritoneal macrophages resulted in oxygen-dependent and oxygen-independent killing of intracellular Toxoplasma gondii. Activation was characterized by oxygen-dependent killing detectable by enhanced lysosome fusion and digestion of T. gondii. The toxoplasmacidal activity of activated J774G8 cells and peritoneal macrophages was prevent...

Intracellular Toxoplasma gondii grown in human foreskin fibroblast cells transported nitrobenzylthioinosine [NBMPR; 6-[(4-nitrobenzyl)mercapto]-9-beta-D-ribofuranosylpurine], an inhibitor of nucleoside transport in mammalian cells, as well as the nonphysiological beta-L-enantiomers of purine nucleosides, beta-L-adenosine, beta-L-deoxyadenosine, and beta-L-guanosine. The beta-L-pyrimidine nucleo...
