The Australian Group on Antimicrobial Resistance performs regular period-prevalence studies to monitor changes in antimicrobial resistance in selected enteric Gram-negative pathogens. The 2011 survey focussed on hospital-onset infections, examining isolates from all specimens presumed to be causing disease. In 2011, 1,827 Escherichia coli, 537 Klebsiella species and 269 Enterobacter species wer...
Klebsiella ozaenae is a Gram negative bacillus. It has been described as a colonizer of oral and nasopharyngeal mucosa and is a cause of atrophic rhinitis. Klebsiella ozaenae has seldom been isolated from serious infections. However, several reports have stated that Klebsiella ozaenae may cause invasive infections and even mortality. We report a 55-year-old man with Klebsiella ozaenae infection...
Molecular typing of Klebsiella species has become important for monitoring dissemination of β-lactamase-producers in hospital environments. The present study was designed to evaluate poly-trinucleotide (GTG)(5)- and rDNA intergenic transcribed spacer (ITS)-PCR fingerprint analysis for typing of Klebsiella pneumoniae and Klebsiella oxytoca isolates. Multiple displacement amplified DNA derived fr...
The antimicrobial resistance of Klebsiella species in the poultry industry is becoming a public concern. In support our recent publication "Characterization of antimicrobial resistance in Klebsiella species isolated from chicken broilers" (Wu et al., 2016) [1], multilocus sequence typing (MLST) and gyrA PCR-RFLP assays were conducted to identify the genetic relationships between and phylogeneti...
HLA B27 is associated with a number of forms of arthritis, including ankylosing spondylitis. It has been suggested that the disease is caused by Klebsiella pneumoniae and that the bacterium evokes an odd immune response because it cross-reacts with HLA B27. This proposed cross-reactivity was investigated in a number of ways. The results consistently failed to confirm evidence from cross reactio...
background and aims: recently it has been proved that some of enterobacteriacea like klebsiella pneumoniae, which carry pks islands, damage dsdna by encoding colibactin genotoxin; and finally they induce some apoptosis in damaged mucosal cells. this study aimed to isolating the clbn and clbb genes, which are the markers of the pks genomic island, from pks cluster in these bacteria materials and...
The capsular polysaccharide (CPS) plays important role in Klebsiella spp pathogenesis. Capsular types K1 and K2 of Klebsiella pneumoniae are considered most virulent for humans. The capsule biosynthesis region flanking genes galF and gnd from clinical isolates and reference strains of K. pneumoniae were screened for polymorphism. Nucleotide sequence analysis of galF and gnd revealed a high hete...
The generation in vivo of plasmids deleted at specific sites in strains of Klebsiella pneumoniae containing R plasmids, by treatment with high concentrations of acridine orange (1.2 mg/ml) at 42 degrees C are reported. These deletions seem to be site specific because loss of specific restriction fragments after digestion with restriction enzymes was demonstrated.
Cefoxitin-resistant Escherichia coli (n = 109) and Klebsiella pneumoniae (n = 16) isolates collected from patients in India in 2009 to 2010 were screened for bla(ampC) families and mobilizing elements (ISEcp1, IS26, ISCR1, and sul-1-type class 1 integrons) and their association with bla(ampC) and for the occurrence of class A beta-lactamases (BLs) (CTX-M, TEM, and SHV). The concurrent occurrenc...
Klebsiella pneumoniae (associated with bacterial pneumonia) was previously isolated from Nezara viridula, a significant vector of cotton boll-rot pathogens. We provide the first annotated genome sequence of the cotton opportunistic strain K. pneumoniae 5-1. This data provides guidance to study the bases of cotton pathogenesis by bacteria associated with vectors.
