Klebsiella pneumoniae is the most common clinically important opportunistic bacterial pathogen and its infection is often iatrogenic. Its drug resistance poses a grave threat to public health. The genomic data reported here comprise an important resource for research on phage therapy in the control of drug-resistant bacteria.

Klebsiella pneumoniae shows increasing emergence of multidrug-resistant lineages, including strains resistant to all available antimicrobial drugs. We conducted whole-genome sequencing of 178 highly drug-resistant isolates from a tertiary hospital in Lahore, Pakistan. Phylogenetic analyses to place these isolates into global context demonstrate the expansion of multiple independent lineages, in...

β-Lactamase inhibitory protein II (BLIP-II) is a potent inhibitor of class A β-lactamases. KPC-2 is a class A β-lactamase that is capable of hydrolyzing carbapenems and has become a widespread source of resistance to these drugs for Gram-negative bacteria. Determination of association and dissociation rate constants for binding between BLIP-II and KPC-2 reveals a very tight interaction with a c...

The nucleotide sequence of pKP1433 (55,417 bp), a blaKPC-2-carrying plasmid from Klebsiella pneumoniae sequence type 340, was determined. pKP1433 displayed extensive sequence and structural similarities with the IncN plasmids possessing the KPC-2-encoding Tn4401b isoform. However, the replication, partitioning, and stability of pKP1433 were determined by sequences related to diverse non-IncN pl...

We present the draft genome sequence of a blood culture isolate of OXA-48-producing Klebsiella pneumoniae (sequence type 11 [ST11]) obtained in the course of a hospital outbreak in Spain. Sequence analysis showed 121 genes related to antibiotic and antiseptic resistance, including blaOXA-48, which was located in an IncL/M plasmid.

objective: there are few therapeutic options for treatment of multidrug resistant klebsiella pneumoniae isolates as a hospital infectious agent (nosocomial infection). the aim of this study was to evaluate the antibacterial activity of zataria multiflora boiss extracts against esbl-producing klebsiella pneumoniae strains. materials and methods: this study was conducted on 100 k. pneumoniae isola...

Bacterial endophthalmitis is endogenous in 2-6% of cases and is frequently misdiagnosed initially. Klebsiella pneumoniae is being increasingly recognised as an aggressive causative organism, and it is particularly prevalent in Asian populations. We describe the case of a 71-year-old female of Southeast Asian origin with type 2 diabetes mellitus who presented with visual loss secondary to bacter...

A nosocomial pyogenic liver abscess caused by an extended-spectrum beta-lactamase-producing Klebsiella pneumoniae isolate presented in a man with adenocarcinoma of the stomach. The K. pneumoniae strain isolated from blood and liver aspirate cultures after antibiotic therapy for recurrent bacteremia was resistant to all extended-spectrum beta-lactams except imipenem and differed from K. pneumoni...

Klebsiella pneumoniae carbapenemase (KPC)-producing K. pneumoniae, Escherichia coli, and Serratia marcescens were sequentially identified in a patient who underwent small bowel transplantation. Molecular typing and plasmid analysis suggested that the KPC gene was acquired by E. coli, most likely from K. pneumoniae, and was subsequently transferred to S. marcescens.
