Sections of frozen-dried stomach mucosa of the rabbit cut at various levels from the surface were analyzed for esterase activity in relation to the proportions of cell types present. Aside from the fraction attributable to extracellular esterase all the esterase activity appears to be in proportion to the numbers of foveolar and neck mucous cells present in the sample.

The esterase and depsidase activities of tannase have been examined by kinetic methods. Although the esterase/depsidase ratio of tannase may be varied by cultural methods and isolation procedures, evidence has been obtained to show that tannase, esterase and depsidase are enzymes with low specificities capable of hydrolysing both esters and depsides of gallic acid.

Cholesterol esterase (EC 3.1.1.13) was identified in a bacterium, Burkholderia stabilis strain FERMP-21014. Here, we report the complete genome sequence of B. stabilis FERMP-21014, which has been used in the commercial production of cholesterol esterase. The genome sequence information may be useful for improving production levels of cholesterol esterase.

The lipase and esterase activities of eight strains of dairy Propionibacterium freudenreichii subsp. freudenreichii were studied. A lipase activity was detected on whole cells and in the culture supernatant. The highest activity was expressed at 45 degrees C and pH 6.8. An esterase activity was also detected in the culture medium. The electrophoresis of the intracellular fractions of the cells ...

In this work it is describe for the first time, the use of an esterase with null activity (Tfu_0883 bacterial cutinase from Thermobifida fusca) on the removal of fat from the surface of a cotton substrate. Similar levels of fat removal were found for both null and wild-type proteins, despite that only wild type protein yielded fatty acids. Our results show that molecular recognition of esterase...

Human monocyte/macrophage serine esterase (HMSE), commonly known as acid esterase or anaphthylacetate esterase, comprises a group of five enzyme variants that can be distinguished by their isoelectric points from esterase variants of the other normal human blood cell populations. A cDNA for one of the monocytic enzyme variants (HMSE1) was cloned from a U-937 A g t l l cDNA library by screening ...

Plants were engineered to confer resistance to thiazopyr, a member of the pyridine herbicide family, via an esterase deactivation mechanism. Earlier studies showed that transformation of thiazopyr to its monoacid metabolite resulted in loss of herbicidal activity (P.C.C. Feng et al., 1995, Xenobiotica 35, 27). Based on thiazopyr hydrolytic activity, a 60-kDa esterase was purified from rabbit li...

AIM To substantiate the high incidence of monocyte esterase deficiency (MED) in gastrointestinal carcinoma already reported in a small group of patients; to compare the clinical findings in esterase deficient and esterase positive patients. METHODS Peripheral blood smears (n = 22) or cytocentrifuge preparations (n = 52) of mononuclear cells from the peripheral blood of patients with gastroint...
