We compared the efficacy of combination posaconazole-liposomal amphotericin B (LAmB) therapy to monotherapy with either drug in diabetic ketoacidotic or neutropenic mice with disseminated zygomycosis caused by Rhizopus oryzae. Combination therapy was no better than LAmB alone, and posaconazole monotherapy did not improve survival or reduce fungal burden versus placebo.

Invasive zygomycosis rarely complicates trauma. We describe the first recorded case of invasive infection of the anterior abdominal wall and omentum with the zygomycete Syncephalastrum racemosum, which was successfully treated with partial surgical debridement and amphotericin B lipid complex.

OBJECTIVES The pharmacokinetics of lipid-formulated amphotericin B (AMB), and of AMB that has dissociated from its lipid moiety and bound to lipoproteins in plasma, were separately determined in critically ill patients. PATIENTS AND METHODS Eleven patients required continuous veno-venous haemofiltration (CVVH). Five of them were treated with liposomal AMB (AmBisome) and seven with AMB colloid...

This study describes the safety and efficacy of amphotericin B lipid complex (ABLC) in 11 neonates with systemic Candida infections. Nine of the 11 improved clinically, and eight of nine evaluable patients had a mycological cure with ABLC. Creatinine levels improved or did not significantly change in eight of the 11 patients.

Amphotericin B as a lipid complex and as a deoxycholate suspension (Fungizone) was tested against murine blastomycosis. All doses of each form prolonged survival (P less than 0.05 to 0.001). Fungizone was more effective than lipid complex at doses of 0.8 mg/kg of body weight. However, lipid complex at 12.8 mg/kg was not toxic and superior in efficacy (P less than 0.001) to 2.0 mg of Fungizone p...

Bangladesh is non endemic for Cutaneous Leishmaniasis (CL). Rarely, we come across such cases in workers returning from Middle east particularly Saudi Arabia. Recently found and managed a case of cutaneous leishmaniasis 37 year old male Arabia with lesion behind his left ankle joint. Although Sodium Stibogluconate the first choice drug to treat CL, it not available Bangladesh. He was successful...

Here we report the case of a disseminated Aspergillus flavus infection in an adolescent affected by acute lymphoblastic leukaemia at the beginning of first-line chemotherapy. Association of surgery and combination antifungal therapy (high dose liposomal amphotericin B and caspofungin) allowed infection improvement. 18-FDG PET-MRI was used for response-to therapy monitoring.

Evaluating new therapeutic agents for invasive aspergillosis requires animal models that are reproducible among different laboratories. We therefore evaluated a murine model of aerosol infection in two independent laboratories and found a high level of both intra- and interlaboratory reproducibility of survival, fungal burden over time, and the efficacy of liposomal amphotericin B.

Fusarium species are saprophytic molds which cause disseminated or localized infections in humans. Disseminated Fusarium infection can cause significant morbidity and mortality in immunocompromised patients. We present a case of disseminated fusariosis caused by Fusarium verticillioides in a patient with acute lymphoblastic leukemia and successfully treated using both liposomal amphotericin B a...
