The purpose of the research : to consider problem development critical thinking among students in educational process a technical university. Scientific hypothesis emergence new generation high technologies has caused an urgent need review skills necessary for future specialist successful professional activity, placing emphasis on teamwork and creativity, learning through games that develop thi...
Relationships between structural and functional variables in asthmatic lungs at local and global (or lobar) levels remain to be discovered. This study aims to investigate local alterations of structural variables [bifurcation angle, circularity, airway wall thickness (WT), and hydraulic diameter (Dh)] in asthmatic subjects, and their correlations with other imaging and pulmonary function test-b...
Intubation of the left main bronchus via a tracheostomy tube was performed in a patient with local recurrence of lung cancer associated with invasion and obstruction of the left main bronchus after right sleeve pneumonectomy. The result was satisfactory not only for preventing asphyxia, but also for maintaining the patency of the airway after extubation of the endotracheal tube.
Patients with mediastinal masses present unique challenge to anesthesiologists. Patients with anterior mediastinal masses have well documented cases of respiratory or cardiovascular collapse during anesthesia and in postoperative period. Masses in the posterior mediastinum have been traditionally regarded to carry a significantly lower risk of anesthesia related complications but cases of near ...
The child was restless with minimal respiratory distress, pulse rate 140/min and SpO2 95%. A posteroanterior chest radiograph (Fig. 1) revealed a hair pin in the right main bronchus. Rigid bronchoscopy was done under general anesthesia and the foreign body was removed from the right main bronchus but got stuck into base of tongue as open prongs of hair pin were facing the surgeon. There was ooz...
Congenital obstructive emphysema is an uncommon paediatric condition affecting usually a single lobe, occasionally multiple lobes bilaterally, and only rarely a whole lung. This case report describes a neonate with congenital obstructive emphysema of the left lung and an associated lymphatic cyst compressing the left main bronchus, who presented two hours after birth with severe respiratory dis...
Pulmonary function tests such as flow-volume loops and reconstructive radiological imaging may aid the detection of large airway obstruction prior to corrective surgery for severe scoliosis. Intraoperative use of halo-gravity traction may help to reduce the severity of the scoliosis, and thus the extrinsic compression or torsion of the airways.
Flexible suction catheters were passed through the endotracheal tubes of infants undergoing mechanical ventilation, just before chest radiographic examination for clinical purposes. With the head straight, 7 of 10 straight catheters entered the right main bronchus but with the head turned, 17 of 20 straight catheters and 19 of 20 curved tip catheters entered the contralateral bronchus.
Velocity profiles, local deposition efficiencies (DE), and deposition patterns of aerosol particles in the first three generations (i.e., double bifurcations) of an airway model have been simulated numerically, in which the airway model was constructed from computed tomography (CT) scan data of real human tracheobronchial airways. Three steady inhalation conditions, 15, 30, and 60 L/min, were s...
