We consider the influence of adsorption kinetics on a longwave oscillatory instability in a layer of a binary liquid heated from below. It is shown that an advection of the adsorbed surfactant leads to a strong stabilization of the mode. Qualitative explanation of the numerical results is provided.

The effect of the instability interface morphology due to mechanical disturbances and acceleration changes (or gravity flutter) on Marangoni convective stability has been confirmed via space experiments. However, compared with research convection an axisymmetric liquid bridge, transition flow behavior a non-axisymmetric bridge is not sufficiently deep. Based thermal-buoyant capillary (TBCC) exp...

Solving numerically hydrodynamical problems of incompressible fluids arises the question of handling first order derivatives (those of pressure) in a closed container and determining its boundary conditions. A way to avoid the first point is to derive a Poisson equation for pressure, although the problem of taking the right boundary conditions still remains. To remove this problem another formu...

This work is devoted to the theoretical study of the stability of two superposed horizontal liquid layers bounded by two solid planes and subjected to a horizontal temperature gradient. The liquids are supposed to be immiscible with a nondeformable interface. The forces acting on the system are buoyancy and interfacial tension. Four different flow patterns and temperature profiles are found for...

In this article, we describe the instability of a contact line under nonequilibrium conditions mainly based on the results of our recent studies. Two experimental examples are presented: the self-propelled motion of a liquid droplet and spontaneous dynamic pattern formation. For the self-propelled motion of a droplet, we introduce an experiment in which a droplet of aniline sitting on an aqueou...

Oil droplets loaded with surfactant propel themselves with a velocity up to 6 mm s(-1) when they are placed in an aqueous phase of NaOH solution or buffer solution. The required driving force for such motion is generated on the interface of the droplets by the change in interfacial tension, due to deprotonation of the surfactant. This force induces Marangoni convection, which gives rise to a ci...
