An observation of quantum interference effect in photocurrent spectra of a weakly coupled bound-to-continuum multiple quantum well photodetector is reported. This effect persists even at high biases where the Kronig–Penney minibands of periodic superlattice potential in the continuum are destroyed. Our results show that electrons remain coherent over a distance of 40–50 nm. The observation was ...

We present an X-ray-optical cross-correlator for the soft ([Formula: see text]) up to the hard X-ray regime based on a molybdenum-silicon superlattice. The cross-correlation is done by probing intensity and position changes of superlattice Bragg peaks caused by photoexcitation of coherent phonons. This approach is applicable for a wide range of X-ray photon energies as well as for a broad range...

We have developed thin film heaters/sensors that can be integrated on top of superlattice microcoolers to measure the Seebeck coefficient perpendicular to the layer. In this paper, we discuss the Seebeck coefficients of InGaAs/InAlAs superlattices grown with Molecular Beam Epitaxy (MBE) that have different doping concentrations, varying between 2e18, 4e18, and 8e18 to 3e19 cm. It was interestin...

We develop a semiclassical theory of the nondegenerate parametric amplification in a single miniband of superlattice. We present the formulas describing absorption and gain of signal and idler fields in superlattice and analyze the limiting cases of strong and weak dissipation. We show how the well-known Manley-Rowe relations arise in the tight-binding lattice in the weak dissipation limit. Our...

We show that superlattices can be formed in the ternary and quaternary ln(GaAl)As alloys on InP by molecular beam epitaxy without mechanical shuttering. Periodic ordering is produced by rotation of the substrate through the naturally nonuniform distribution of beam fluxes at the rotating substrate. The growth rate and substrate rotation rate together determine the superlattice period which is m...

We present the first observations of zero-n[over ] band gaps in photonic crystal superlattices consisting of alternating stacks of negative-index photonic crystals and positive-index dielectric materials in the near-infrared range. Guided by ab initio three-dimensional numerical simulations, the fabricated nanostructured superlattices demonstrate the presence of zeroth-order gaps in remarkable ...

In this paper we derive a diiusion equation for electron transport in a superlattice. The starting model is a quantum scattering matrix model which relates the phase space density of each superlattice cell with that of the neighbouring cells. Then, in the limit of a large number of cells, a diiusion equation for the particle number density in the position-energy space is obtained, which is of '...

Magnetic structures of epitaxial Cr(001)/Sn multilayers, where monatomic Sn layers are periodically embedded in a Cr(001) film, were studied using neutron diffraction and Mössbauer spectroscopy. It was found that spin-density-wave (SDW) antiferromagnetic structures with the modulation along the perpendicular direction to the film plane are stabilized at low temperatures. The wavelength of the S...

We report on the use of InAlAs linearly graded buffer layers for improving the performance of InyGa12yAs (y.0.42)/AlGaAs intersubband transition ~ISBT! superlattice structures grown on GaAs substrates by molecular beam epitaxy. Linearly graded InAlAs buffer layers give better optical confinement in the active superlattice region, similar intersubband transition linewidths, and comparable surfac...
