A new and improved protocol for the synthesis, in good to excellent yields, of acridine-1,8(2H,5H)-diones is described, involving a one-pot, three component reaction of dimedone, arylglyoxals, and ammonium acetate in water under microwave irradiation.
The Wittig reaction rate can be dramatically enhanced by irradiation of the reaction mixture containing an aldehyde or ketone; methoxymethyl(triphenyl)phosphonium chloride, potassium t-butoxide, and t BuOH with a commercial microwave oven. Carbonyl compound are converted to Witting products within three min. in good yields.
Nano silica-H2SO4 is an efficient and mild catalysis system for the regeneration of aldehyde from aldoximes. Ketoximes are converted to amides by Beckmann rearrangement in the presence of nano silica-H2SO4. The reactions are carried out in solvent-free conditions under microwave irradiation (600 W) within 50-120 sec in good yields.
Michael addition of pyrimidine and purine nucleobases to substituted as well as unsubstituted α,β-unsaturated esters efficiently proceeds in the presence of catalytic amount of zinc oxide in ionic liquid 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium bromide (ZnO/[bmim]Br) under microwave irradiation to afford carboacyclic nucleosides, as biologically important compounds, in good to excellent yields and in short ...
Carboxymethyl chitosan was prepared by reacting chitosan with chloroacetic acid in water under microwave irradiation. The effect of the reaction conditions was investigated and optimal conditions were identified. The influence of mass ratio of chloroacetic acid to chitosan, microwave power and pH on the degree of substitution or intrinsic viscosity were further studied. The degree of substituti...
This review aims to highlight microwave-assisted organic synthesis as applied to medicinal chemistry in the last years, showing some reactions performed under microwave irradiation for the synthesis of distinct structurally molecules of biological interest, divided into the following groups: antineoplastics, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial agents, antivirals, agents for the treatment of neglec...
Various extraction techniques were applied in the extraction of the biologically active constituents. The methods employed were traditional maceration extraction, microwave-assisted extraction(MAE), and ultrasound extraction (UE). Compared to the maceration extraction, MAE and UE methods provided high extraction yield, requiring short time frames and less labour. Microwave irradiation is a prov...
Over the last decade, the use of biocatalysts has become an attractive alternative to conventional chemical methods, especially for organic synthesis, due to their unusual properties. Among these enzymes, lipases are the most widely used, because they are cheap, easily available, cofactor-free, and have broad substrate specificity. Combined to microwave heating in non-aqueous medium, recent res...
We demonstrate synthesis of a polymer-derived ceramic (PDC)-multiwall carbon nanotube (MWCNT) composite using microwave irradiation at 2.45 GHz. The process takes about 10 min of microwave irradiation for the polymer-to-ceramic conversion. The successful conversion of polymer coated carbon nanotubes to ceramic composite is chemically ascertained by Fourier transform-infrared and X-ray photoelec...
This paper reports an investigation of the microwave-assisted synthesis of silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) using extract of stinky bean (Parkia speciosa Hassk) pods (BP). The formation of Ag NPs was identified by instrumental analysis consists of UV-vis spectrophotometry, Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectrophotometry, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM...
