In order to promote pedagogically informed use technology, educators need to develop an active, inquisitive, design-oriented mindset (Laurillard, 2008). Design Patterns have been demonstrated as powerful mediators of theory-praxis conversations (Goodyear et al., 2006) yet widespread adoption by the practitioner community remains a challenge. Over several years, the authors and their colleagues ...

A general framework for structure-preserving model reduction by Krylov subspace projection methods is developed. The goal is to preserve any substructures of importance in the matrices L, G, C, B that define the model prescribed by transfer function H(s) = L∗(G+sC)−1B. Many existing structure-preserving model-order reduction methods for linear and second-order dynamical systems can be derived u...

Actor programs consist of a number of concurrent objects called actors, which communicate by exchanging messages. Nondeterminism in actors results from the different possible orders in which available messages are processed. Systematic testing of actor programs explores various feasible message processing schedules. Dynamic partial-order reduction (DPOR) techniques speed up systematic testing b...

In this paper a new approach to the model order reduction of nonlinear systems is presented. This approach does not need simulation of the original system and therefore it is suitable for large systems. By separating linear and nonlinear parts of the original nonlinear model, the idea is considering the nonlinearity of the system as additional inputs. Based on this linear system, a known order ...

We introduce basic partial order reduction techniques in a temporal-epistemic setting. We analyse the semantics of interpreted systems with respect to the notions of trace-equivalence for the epistemic linear time logic LTLK −X .

With the increase in circuit performance (higher speeds) and density (smaller feature size) in deep submicrometer (DSM) designs, interconnect parasitic effects are increasingly becoming more important. This paper first surveys the state of the art in parasitic extraction for resistance, capacitance, and inductance. The paper then covers other related issues such as interconnect modeling, model ...

Partial order (PO) reduction methods are widely employed to combat state explosion during model-checking. We develop a partial order reduction algorithm for rule-based languages such as Murphi [4] based on the observation that for finite-state systems, independence conditions used for PO reduction can be encoded as boolean propositions and checked using SAT methods. Comparisons against static-a...

The paper deals with veriication of untimed branching time properties of Time Petri Nets. The atomic variant of the geometric region method for preserving properties of CTL and ACTL is improved. Then, it is shown, for the rst time, how to apply the partial order reduction method to deal with next-time free branching properties of Time Petri Nets. The above two results are combined ooering an ee...

The characteristic bending strength (MOR) and mean modulus of elasticity (MOE) of tropical hardwood red seraya (Shorea spp.) plywood were determined using European Standard EN310 and EN789. The thickness of the test specimen was 4.0mm, 7.0mm, 9.0mm, 12.0mm and 15.0mm. The experiment found that the MOR of red seraya plywood in EN310 is about 12% to 20% and 7% to 24% higher than EN789 whereas MOE...
