Several advances have taken place since the early 2000s in the field of blood flow modelling. These advances have been driven by the development of assist devices such as Left Ventricular Assist Devices (LVADs), etc., and by the acceptance of in silico tests for the generation of hypotheses concerning clot formation and lysis. We give an overview of the developments in modelling of blood rheolo...

developing reliable yet flexible software is a hard problem. although modeling methods enjoy a lot of advantages, the exclusive use of just one of them, in many cases, may not guarantee the development of reliable and flexible software. formal modeling methods ensure reliability because they use a rigorous approach to software development. however, lack of knowledge and high cost practically fo...

Tawhai MH, Bates JH. Multi-scale lung modeling. J Appl Physiol 110: 1466–1472, 2011. First published February 3, 2011; doi:10.1152/japplphysiol.01289.2010.—Multiscale modeling of biological systems has recently become fashionable due to the growing power of digital computers as well as to the growing realization that integrative systems behavior is as important to life as is the genome. While i...

Expressive speech synthesis is crucial for many human-computer interaction scenarios, such as audiobooks, podcasts, and voice assistants. Previous works focus on predicting the style embeddings at one single scale from information within current sentence. Whereas, context in neighboring sentences multi-scale nature of human are neglected, making it challenging to convert multi-sentence text int...

The present work reports the development of a multi-scale model to predict and control drying behavior coated substrate under infrared (IR) radiant burners. accounts for simultaneous heat mass transfer in liquid film layer, characterized by binary polymer-solvent solution. developed works with two distinguished scales, micro(coating film)- macro(oven)-scale, which are connected an iterative two...

We describe Dizzy, a software tool for stochastically and deterministically modeling the spatially homogeneous kinetics of integrated large-scale genetic, metabolic, and signaling networks. Notable features include a modular simulation framework, reusable modeling elements, complex kinetic rate laws, multi-step reaction processes, steady-state noise estimation, and spatial compartmentalization.

In this paper, we develop a multi-scale model to describe the particle growth in a fluidized bed reactor. Population balance model is presented to describe the dynamical behavior of particle size distribution. Stability analysis is derived to determine the control configuration for the complex particulate process. Inventory control strategy is applied to control the particle size distribution.
