Multifunctional abietane-based polymer nanogels were fabricated for label-free cell imaging and drug delivery. The self-fluorescent abietane as the framework of carriers enables the imaging without the need for external fluorescent probes, while abietane-based nanogels exhibit low in vitro cytotoxicity.

The first attempt of constructing pH responsive supramolecular prodrug micelles based on cucurbit[8]uril is reported. The obtained prodrug micelles are found to be able to inhibit proliferation of cancer cells. Multifunctional thermosensitive dendrimeric nanocarriers were generated via tailored surface modification. Such design not only facilitated the rapid endosomal escape of dendrimers, but also achieved tunable surface hydrophobicity, which could be employed to achieve on-demand cargo release. These smart dendrimers are promising for enhancing intracellular drug delivery.
