Here we report a novel method for modifying commercially available TiO2 nanoparticles by a microwave-induced plasma technique. After the plasma treatment TiO2 nanoparticles showed enhanced visible absorption due to the doped W atoms, and the photocatalytic methylene blue degradation above 440 nm was successfully improved.

TiO2 mesoporous nanoparticles (NPs) doped with yttrium (Y) ions are fabricated via an environmentally friendly and facile solvothermal method to serve as a photoanode for dye sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). X-ray diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy and N2 adsorption-desorption tests are used to characterize the influence of yttrium dopant on the prope...

Co-doped TiO2 nanoparticles containing 0.0085, 0.017, 0.0255, 0.034, and 0.085 mol % Co(III) ion dopant were synthesized via sol-gel and dip-coating techniques. The effects of metal ion doping on the transformation of anatase to the rutile phase have been investigated. Several analytical tools, such as X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscope (TEM), X-ray photoelectron spectros...

I-doped titanium dioxide nanospheres (I-TNSs) were synthesized via a two-step hydrothermal synthesis route, their potential for the efficient utilization of visible light was evaluated. The prepared anatase-phase I-TNSs had a bimodal porous size distribution with a Brunauer-Emmett-Teller surface area of 76 m2/g, a crystallite size of approximately 14 nm calculated from X-ray diffraction data, a...

Detection of H2O2 is important for the applications in environmental protection, pharmaceutical industries, food production, and clinical control. Current colorimetric assay of H2O2 based on enzyme or nanomaterials always needs TMB or other peroxidase substrate as coloration species. Furthermore, the corresponding response time including incubation process is in order of minute. In this study, ...

We use hybrid density functional calculations to find that the monolayer silicane (SiH) and the anatase TiO2(101) composite (i.e. the SiH/TiO2 heterojunction) is a promising TiO2-based photocatalyst under visible light. The band gap of the SiH/TiO2(101) heterojunction is 2.082 eV, which is an ideal material for the visible-light photoexcitation of electron-hole pairs. Furthermore, the SiH/TiO2(...

Differently modified TiO2 nanotubes were used to achieve a drastic change in the selectivity of a photocatalytic reaction. For the photocatalytic oxidation of toluene, depending on the electronic properties of TiO2 (anatase, rutile, Ru-doped), a strong change in the main reaction product (namely benzoic acid versus benzaldehyde) can be achieved, and certain undesired reaction pathways can be co...

Water splitting for hydrogen production under sunlight using TiO2 as photo catalyst provides a better route for solar energy and attracts the attention of many researchers. The photo catalytic activity of TiO2 under sunlight irradiation depends on the band gap energy. The transition metal doped TiO2 shows an edge over TiO2 in optical absorbance and photo catalytic activity. Thin film of Cr dope...
