DiSTiL is a software generator that implements a declarative domain-specific language (DSL) for container data structures. DiSTiL is a representative of a new approach to domain-specific language implementation. Instead of being the usual one-of-a-kind standalone compiler, DiSTiL is an extension library for the Intentional Programming (IP) transformation system (currently under development by M...
Four experiments examined people’s folk-psychological concept of intentional action. The chief question was whether or not evaluative considerations — considerations of good and bad, right and wrong, praise and blame — played any role in that concept. The results indicated that the moral qualities of a behavior strongly influence people’s judgements as to whether or not that behavior should be ...
Abstract One of the pressing issues in philosophy technology is role human creativity human-technology relations. We first observe that a techno-centric orientation leaves open and contribution technological evolution, while an anthropocentric technical milieu evolution. Subsequently, we develop concept creation as deviation responsiveness response to affordances environment, inspired by afford...
Software product line engineering optimizes the development of individual systems by leveraging their common characteristics and managing their differences in a systematic way. These differences are called variabilities. We argue that it is difficult for business people to fully benefit of the SPL if it remains at the software level. The paper proposes a move towards a description of software p...
Software engineering is a quest for appropriate modeling and abstraction. Writing programs that simulate parts of the real world requires programmers to fill the conceptual gap between the domain knowledge and computer languages. As a consequence of the conceptual distance between the business domain and the general purpose programming languages, clearly identifiable concepts at the domain leve...
In this paper a computational simulation of the imitation of intentional behaviour is presented. Important assumptions which make the problem computationally tractable are introduced and motivated. It is shown that horizontal, iterated learning, and vertical transmission schemes can be used to learn from imitation using the proposed framework.
This note is based on Gregor Kiczales’ position paper on Aspect-Oriented Programming: “AOP, The Fun has Just Begun”. I am a big fan of AOP. It has working and useful examples, and it brings into focus a key fault of traditional languages and OOP in particular, namely that modularity or refinement by itself can provide for a proper separation of concerns. It can not. Gregor describes the false h...
Software clone refactoring has been studied from many perspectives, including empirical research on clone refactoring history, IDE support for tracking clone change, and recommendation systems for clone management. Most of the work relies on having access to and being able to analyze the history of clone refactoring. However, refactoring cloned code is not equivalent to clone management, as cod...
While humans possess a ready capacity to view a target (biological or otherwise) as an intentional agent (i.e. the 'intentional stance'), the conditions necessary for spontaneously eliciting these mentalizing processes are less well understood. Although research examining people's tendency to construe the motion of geometric shapes as intentional has done much to illuminate this issue, due to m...
