Abstract This article constitutes a critique of abstraction as an analytic tool. The argument advances the idea that formalizing practices are indexical; is, way abstractions realized necessarily incorporates features context in which they produced. expression refers to series actions or operations make quantification, rationalization, and standardization possible. Entailed all these procedures...
We present sorting algorithms on the recently introduced multi-mesh, a network consisting of n 2 meshes of size n n which are connected by the free marginal links of the meshes. Our algorithm takes 41n + o(n) steps which is a signiicant improvement to previously known algorithms. The sorting algorithm is based on a technique using interchange of data between the n n submeshes to distribute info...
In this paper the user-oriented BISANTE workload generator for network traffic simulation is presented. It enables the analyst to model both the behavior of network users interacting with applications or services and the network traffic at the packet level itself. This way, workload at different levels of abstraction can be constructed. Currently the workload generator is available for the simu...
The Programmer's Playground takes a new approach to simplifying and supporting the construction of distributed applications. The approach, called I/O abstraction, separates the description of a system's communication structure from the descriptions of its computational components so that software modules written in existing programming languages cna be integrated flexibly and dynamically by bot...

Nexus Authorization Logic (NAL) [Schneider et al. 2011] is a logic for reasoning about authorization in distributed systems. A revised version of NAL is given here, including revised syntax, a revised proof theory using localized hypotheses, and a new Kripke semantics. The proof theory is proved sound with respect to the semantics, and that proof is formalized in Coq.
of review evelopments in functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) have catalyzed a new field of nal neuroscience. Using fMRI to monitor the aspects of task-related changes in neural activation or nnectivity, investigators can offer feedback of simple or complex neural signals/patterns back to cipant on a quasireal-time basis [real-time-fMRI-based neurofeedback (rt-fMRI-NF)]. Here, we e some...
