Pharmaceutically active compounds in ionic liquid form immobilized onto mesoporous silica are stable, easily handled solids, with fast and complete release from the carrier material when placed into an aqueous environment. Depending on specific ion-surface interactions, they may also exhibit improved thermal stability when compared to the non-adsorbed compounds.
Despite differences in the crystal structures of ice and nucleosides, antifreeze polypeptides (AFPs) have been demonstrated to inhibit nucleation of 5-methyluridine, cytidine, and inosine and modify the crystal growth of the nucleosides efficiently. The molecular recognition repertoire of AFPs has been expanded to non-ice-like crystalline solids.
A montmorillonite has been intercalated with Al3+ polycations, using concentrated solutions and clay mineral dispersions. The reaction has been assisted by microwave radiation, yielding new intercalated solids and leading to Al-pillared solids after their calcination at 500 °C. The solids were characterized by elemental chemical analysis, X-ray diffraction, FTIR spectroscopy, thermal analyses, ...
We present a simple smoothing operator for surfel-bounded solids obtained by adding two solids together using boolean operations. When adding two surfel-bounded solids together with the union operator, it is sometimes desirable to smooth out the sharp creases in the surface of the resulting solid. This report presents a simple local smoothing operator for this purpose. We illustrate that this o...
Introduction: By appropriate method can be recycled more than 95 percent effluent backwashing the filter. This study aimed to examine the efficiency of the electrocoagulation process on turbidity and suspended solids removal from backwash effluent of rapid sand filter of water treatment plants No 1 in Karaj. Methods: This bench-scale experimental study was carried out on the samples of b...

Ahstrati-A one-dimensional, two-phase axially dispersed plug flow model has been developed to describe the steady-state performance of a relatively new type of reactor, the gas-solid trickle flow reactor (GSTFR). In this reactor, an upward-flowing gas phase is contacted with a downward-flowing dilute solids phase over an inert packing. The model is derived from the separate mass and heat balanc...
Anaerobic digestion is a naturally occurring biological process in which large numbers of anaerobic bacteria convert organic matter into methane and carbon dioxide (a mixture called biogas) in the absence of air. It is a widely used biological process for treating wastewater solids. This process stabilizes the organic matter in wastewater solids, reduces pathogens and odors, and reduces the tot...

The range of operations on solids supported by current geometric modelling systems is very limited. Typically, solids represented in a modeller can be transformed by rigid motions and combined by Boolean operations. This paper introduces another family of transformations, called solid offsetting, which map solids into solids. Offset solids are expanded or contracted versions of an original obje...
