Abstract: The idea of summing pairs of so-called semi-wavelets has been found to be very useful for constructing piecewise linear wavelets over refinements of arbitrary triangulations. In this paper we demonstrate the versatility of the semi-wavelet approach by using it to construct bases for the piecewise linear wavelet spaces induced by uniform refinements of four-directional box-spline grids.
Abstract: Unlike traditional approaches to synthesis of wavelet bases the proposed method uses a priori information on the signal shape and noise correlation function to adapt the wavelet analysis for experimental conditions. Numerical schemes taking advantage of the wavelet bases capabilities to compress both functions and operators are presented. Galerkin methods for the heat and Poisson equations in dimension two are developed and numerically tested. Then a pseudo-wavelet scheme, using collocation for the nonlinear term, is deened for the two-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations. Numerical tests prove its accuracy.
