onion thrips, thrips tabaci lindeman, is a broadly distributed pest that attacks a wide range of crops. to investigate the intra-specific morphometric variation and the genetic diversity of the species in iran, four populations from tobacco plus 18 populations from onion were studied in some 17 provinces of iran. morphological analysis, using principal components and canonical discriminant anal...

The influence of various cropping sequences on population densities of Meloidogyne hapla and carrot yield was studied in organic soil under microplot-and field conditions. Spinach, radish, barley, oat, and wheat were poor or nonhosts for M. hapla. Population densities of M. hapla were maintained or increased on cabbage, celery, lettuce, leek, marigold, and potato. Marketable percent-age and roo...

We show that the onion-to-vortex switching field in dense arrays of nanostructured ferromagnetic rings is strongly dependent on the angle between the applied magnetic field and the array’s main axis. The variations in switching field of up to 8 mT are connected to the anisotropy produced by dipolar interactions between domain walls in the rings. The interactions stabilize the onion state in ali...

The effects of aqueous extracts of onion and garlic as well as of garlic oil were studied on the process of blood coagulation and fibrinolysis in vitro. Only onion was found to exhibit anti-coagulant and fibrinolytic activity while garlic extract as well as garlic oil were inactive.

Onion routing is a scheme for anonymous communication that is designed for practical use. It has not been modeled formally, however, and therefore its anonymity guarantees have not been rigorously analyzed. We give an IO-automata model of an onion-routing protocol and, under possibilistic definitions, characterize the situations in which anonymity and unlinkability are guaranteed.

Seedling, seedling parts and callus cultures of onion were tested for their antidiabetic activity by feeding the tissue-extracts to diabetic rats. The results indicated much higher antidiabetic activity in callus cultures as compared to natural bulbs of onion. These results may be of pharmaceutical significance since the callus can be used as an alternative source for the isolation of antidiabe...

Bioactive compounds possess different health benefits. Onion contains various bioactive compounds, such as organosulfur flavonols, ascorbic acids, and carbohydrate prebiotics, its by-products have more content of flavonoids than the bulb. Diallyl monosulfide, diallyl disulfide, trisulfide, tetrasulfide are major whereas quercetin, kaempferol, anthocyanin, luteolin considered main flavonoids. As...

Many workers assume that tessera terrain—marked by multiple tectonic lineaments and exposed in crustal plateaus—comprises a global “onion skin” on Venus. A growing body of structural, mechanical, magmatic, gravitational-topographic, and geologic evidence indicates that tesserae record the local interaction of individual deep-mantle plumes with an ancient, globally thin Venusian lithosphere, res...
