Textile industries are one of the largest consumers of water and hence producers of liquid effluents. The dyeing and finishing processes generate volumes of wastewaters in the range 45450 m3 per ton of product [1], containing salts, acids, bases, additives and unfixed dyes. A suitable treatment of these complex wastewaters should lead to a strong decline on the organic load, and desirably to a ...

In dye-sensitized solar cells co-photosensitized with an alkoxysilyl-anchor dye ADEKA-1 and a carboxy-anchor organic dye LEG4, LEG4 was revealed to work collaboratively by enhancing the electron injection from the light-excited dyes to the TiO2 electrodes, and the cells exhibited a high conversion efficiency of over 14% under one sun illumination.

Oxalyl-tethered pyrroles can be doubly bridged with two difluoroboron chelating units to yield bright orange dyes. Interestingly, in polar organic solvents, the addition of fluoride and cyanide result in reversible detachment of the otherwise stable difluoroboron bridges, resulting in sharp changes in color. Thus, this novel compound behaves as a highly selective chromogenic sensor for fluoride...

A novel Ag-based photocatalyst Ag2Nb4O11 has been obtained, which exhibits universal high-efficiency photodegradation activity for rhodamine B (RhB), methylene blue (MB) and methyl orange (MO) organic dyes. The cycling ability (40 times) and recovery characteristics indicate that the Ag2Nb4O11 photocatalyst has high stability, durability and regeneration ability.

Use of a closo-1,12-dicarbadecaborane backbone to link two different organic dyes separated by ca. 37 Å promotes exclusive through space electronic energy transfer with an efficiency of 81 to 87% with Stoke shifts between 4750 and 2800 cm(-1) depending on the pH.

An effective, template-free synthesis methodology has been developed for preparing mesoporous nitrogen-doped SrTiO(3) (meso-STON) using glycine as both a nitrogen source and a mesopore creator. The N-doping, large surface area and developed porosity endow meso-STON with excellent activity in visible-light-responsive photodegradation of organic dyes.

Necklace-like MgO/TiO2 heterojunction structures were synthesized by a simple and economical precursor calcination method for the first time. The obtained unique MgO/TiO2 heterojunction structures exhibit an excellent removal performance towards toxic As(v) ions combined with good photocatalytic properties towards organic dyes.

Herein, we present a water dispersable, magnetic nanoparticle supported "click and release" system. The cleavable linker has been synthesized by using a strain-promoted copper-free "click" reagent to establish the specific link and a fluoride cleavable silane moiety for mild cleavage. Small organic molecules, azide-bearing dyes and functionalized enzymes have been bound to the magnetic particle...

Optical properties of biphenyl difluoroboron β-diketonates were studied in poly(lactic acid) (PLA) blends. Increased conjugation lowered the emission energy, decreased the singlet-triplet energy gap and yielded blue thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF). The properties of these biphenyl dyes may inform organic light emitting diode (OLED) and bioimaging agent design.

High-resolution functional imaging of neural activity in vivo relies on appropriate labeling methods. In this issue of Neuron, Nagayama et al. introduce a simple procedure for staining subsets of neurons with organic calcium indicator dyes via local electroporation. Neuronal populations are sparsely labeled, preserving the ability to resolve calcium signals in dendrites and synaptic structures.
