The A utom ated B eam Steering and Shaping (A B S) project aim s to provide an autom atic, generic and reliable softw are system to ensure the provision of high quality particle beam s to users of an accelerator com plex. A n im portant com ponent of this project is the access to validated reference data describing the different com ponents instaled in the m achines, such as m onitors as w el a...

The relationships between beam attenuation spectra, chlorophyll and pheophytin pigment concentrations, and particle size distributions are examined for a coastal region (Monterey Bay area) believed to have negligible concentrations of terrestrially derived dissolved organic compounds (during May 1977) but large quantities of phytoplankton and resuspended sediments. It was found that the slope o...

In electron-positron storage rings in which the orbits of the colliding beams cross at a substantial angle, a phase-dependent longitudinal force is exerted on the particles of each beam by the bunches of the other. The effects of this force on both incoherent and coherent longitudinal particle motion are investigated. These effects impose a limit on the number of particles which can be stored i...

Spectral attenuation and absorption coefficients of particulate matter and colocated hydrographic measurements were obtained in the Mid-Atlantic Bight during the fall of 1996 and the spring of 1997 as part of the Coastal Mixing and Optics experiment. Within the bottom boundary layer (BBL) the magnitude of the beam attenuation decreased and its spectral shape became steeper with distance from th...

We report the successful application of space-charge forces of a low-energy electron beam for improvement of particle lifetime determined by beam-beam interaction at a high-energy collider. In our experiments, an electron lens, a novel instrument developed for the beam-beam compensation, was set on a 980-GeV proton bunch at the Fermilab Tevatron proton-antiproton collider. The proton-bunch loss...

BACKGROUND Ion beam has been used in cancer treatment, and has a unique preferable feature to deposit its main energy inside a human body so that cancer cell could be killed by the ion beam. However, conventional ion accelerator tends to be huge in its size and its cost. In this paper a future intense-laser ion accelerator is proposed to make the ion accelerator compact. SUBJECTS AND METHODS ...

We present PARSEC, a 3D parallel self-consistent particle tracking program which allows electron-cloud calculations in arbitrary external fields. The program is based on an general particle tracking framework called GenTrackE [5]. The Lorentz force equation is integrated with time as the independent variable. A 3D parallel Multigrid solver computes the electric field for the drive beam in the b...

A modular, maintainable and extensible particle beam simulation architecture is presented. Design considerations for single particle, multi particle, and rms envelope simulations (in two and three dimensions) are outlined. Envelope simulation results have been validated against Trace3D. Hybridization with a physics-centric contol-system abstraction provides a convenient environment for rapid de...

We describe methods for improving the accuracy of injected particle beams by selectively enhancing the particle statistics in particle-in-cell simulations, using reduced model computations as a guide. We demonstrate convergence of key beam parameters in two dimensions, and show improved noise properties in three dimensions.

Metron computations of the double-slit diffraction of a particle beam are in good agreement with quantum theory, demonstrating that wave-particle duality can be explained quantitatively within the framework of a deterministic particle model. Preliminary forwardmodelling computations of the structure the electron are consistent with previous metron predictions from inverse modelling, but work on...
